I have a 95 cavalier, 2.2L, and I'm wondering if its a good idea to get a hitch installed on it for a move out west I am going to do. It would be used for a small U-Haul tailer.
Anyone have any advice on a hitch for this type of car? I also don't know what kind of strain it would put on the engine, theres 250 thousand on it, I wonder if it would be worth it and if the car would make it out there.....

First make sure your car is in top running condition. At 250K it will probably need some maintenance work.

You can have a light duty hitch installed to pull a SMALL trailer. The key word is SMALL! The 2.2 is not designed to pull a big load...and my experience is that most people load far more into a trailer than they can safely pull.

And the roads in the west have many long, steep grades that will push the limits of your car to the max. If you have an automatic transmission you would be well advised to install a transmission cooler to help keep your transmission alive. A manual transmission should not need anything special.

My suggestion is to take along your bare necessities and ship the balance of your PERSONAL items via UPS or FedEx. Forget about hauling furniture and the like...your car really is not ready for that kind of load.

The chevy cavalier has never been rated for towing. This means dont even think about it.Major trans and engine damage will happen.Hope this helps.

i would say sell it and get a truck. a cavalier is not made for towing. and with 250 thousand miles on it you would take a chance of blowing up your motor.
