You don't have to wear a speedo, you know, my team's coach sells our team's swimsuits. Oh and I'm 12, turning 13 this year, boy and I don't have a gf either. I suppose we're the same age. I joined the swim team because I like swimming, it's a nice sport, it builds muscles in my arms so I'm strong, and it keeps me fit and healthy because it is a sport and we exercise when we swim. I'm sure you want to be fit with lots of muscles, girls like guys with muscles, it's always in my sister's magazine, and she always talks about it. Well, it's not really about the girls attention, you know, I'm more interested in the sport than girls because it's in the water, I like the water. You will too, I'm sure. Do a bit of swimming it's always fun to be in the water, I hope to become a swimming champion when I grow up though I also want to become a musician, well.. a pianist I mean, but swimming is my sport. I hope you do well. And do join the swim team, it's a very good sport.

I'd say you should at least try it out. I was 14 in high school and I tried the swim team and now I'm almost qualifying for State meets going on 16. If you don't like it you can always quit, no one but you has the right to say you don't want to do it anymore if you don't like it. But I've found that not only is it great exercise but it's also a way to meet more people. Actually there's a lot of stuff that I wouldn't have done in school had I not known other kids on the swim team. It's something new to try and I'd definitely recommend it, as you as you know the basics then you should be all set, they'll teach you everything from flip turns to starts off of the starting blocks so you don't have to be afraid of that. And one last thing: coaches these days typically don't make you wear briefs (or Speedos, since briefs are the company's biggest selling item they're commonly called Speedos). You have the option of wearing almost anything you want but jammers are the next most worn swimming apparel.

on a swim team, during practices you need to know all the strokes
im in a similar situation, i joined a swim team, first time, and i wasn't very good because all i knew was freestyle and backstroke
but if you join a swim team now, just get used to the new strokes this year, and you'll do much better next year
also, it keeps you in great shape for any additional sports that you play later on in the year
and i don't have to wear a speedo, i wera a "jammer", which is like a normal bathing suit only really tight against you, it's not bad
everyone is wearing a speedo so you won't feel awkward, because your not alone

You don't have to wear a speedo.
As long as you know how to swim pretty well, you will be able to get better and more competitive on a swim team.
And what does a gf have to do with anything?

you dun have to wear the conventional speedo or "nuthuggers" instead u wear a jammer. its like bike shorts. they come down to your knees or just above and are tight.
if you have basic knowledge of all 4 competitve strokes id urge you to join. I wasnt that great but i knew all four strokes and joined to meet girls. fell in love with the sport and made nationals by my senior yr.
btw practices were coed for us and i met lots of girls and am still friends with many of them. plus i lost about 20 lbs while growing 6 inches.
overall it gets you in great shape, teaches you time management, you meet new friends and theres always team romances.

If you like swimming in a competative atmosphere - sure why not?
It is good exercise and helps build team spirit and good character.

You should if you want to. You don't "have" to wear a Speedo, but if you look good in one, go ahead! That might fix the "no girlfriend yet" lol
