basically my PC is connected to the internet and I would like to link the laptop wirelessly to my PC to enable internet access. What type of equipment should I be looking to buy? (My laptop is WiFi enablrde already)

The easiest way is to use a wireless router. They don't cost that much and are much easier to setup.
If you dont want to go that route.. you can add a wireless card to your desktop. Enable Internet connection sharing, bridge the two network cards, Enable the wireless for AD-HOC (peer to peer connections) Set IP's and you have a connection. (NOT EASY, Not Simple, and a pain to get working)
So best advice,, just get a router.

the easiest way is to get a wireless router at about £50.00
alternatively if your lappy and pc hsave network cards, you could get a crossed network cable at about £5.00 and join them that way though connection sharing is slightly more complicated that way.

you need a wire-less router.
this way you can network the lap tops together and get all the information from one lap-top to another.
