I have been reading a lot on this guy recently and have gone from a state of basic knowledge to a bit more indepth understanding. He just seems to be appearing in everything I see currently. Be it the National Geographic in the dentist waiting room yesterday, on the idiot box or in the copy private eye I found under my bed over the weekend.

He annoys me, simply because I cant make up my mind on where I stand... which is unusual for me. Every school of thought on him actually has a good point amongst the bias and I find I fluctuate between considering him being a great but bad man, a idealist , a humanist, the next Castro and so on... I just cant pin him down.

I did a search and found a few questions similar to this, but most were rather old or focused more on specific aspects of him and his regime, where as I would simply like to hear more general thoughts.

Chances are though, whatever you say, it will say more about you then him!

The first few responses are interesting, I was expecting to get nothing but glowing tributes to the man, instead it seems that, so far, that is not the case.

My point is, that even if he IS a tyrant and a dictator, the people love him and the media is, as far as I understand it, free.

Is a prisoner still a prisoner if he is happy in his cell and doesnt want to leave it?

Oh, and I should point out I havent given any thumbs up or down for this question, nor do I intend to (unless its really off topic or offensive) as if I havent been able to generate an opinion, I shouldnt criticise those that have.

He is a bit bonkers I watched a BBC documentary the other day and they said how he once spoke in a press conference for 8 hours without stopping.

The BBC reporter eventually left the press conference after about 45 minutes cos he got bored!

He wanted to ask him about using food as a weapon to win votes.

People claim that he makes people dependant upon state food handouts? I cannot offer a valued opinion because I am not there or do I know enough about the situation.

But my instincts tell me (this is where you can tell more about me than him) that it would be a lot of wetern propaganda because he has nationalised the Oil, so I wouldnt believe anything America says about him, because I do know a lot more about America has treated people who defy them in the past (Castro)

no longer something is so definable as to be the two A or B (different than binary language, or perhaps there ther is AND OR THEN) there became surely countless corruption and abuse in his united states until now he took over. the HAVEs in Venezuela HAD a lot and the HAVES no longer had little or no. He became elected in a honest election by an overpowering majority, that's an more advantageous than you are able to say approximately Pres. Bush. i might say the e book remains out. If he defiles the loose election device and refuses to bypass, a-la Castro then he has advance right into a tyrant. merely because of the fact he has a noisy mouth and he opposes US coverage does no longer make him a villain. the U. S. has had a dominating presence in a lot of Latin usa for hundreds of years and this has left a foul style interior the mouth of the individuals. This actuality is what introduced approximately the Cuban revolution. the way he treats his own human beings might desire to be the decide. we could wait and notice.

Well the simple fact that as an Army Colonel, Chavez tried to overthrow the democratically elected government of Venezuela in 1992.

Would forever take him out of running to be a hero.

And it doesn't bode well for the future of Venezuela either.

It seems the poor of his Country like him and the rich do not.I do not mind him sticking it to Bush, who really cares what he says.I am not to keen on his cozy relationship with Castro ( as Castro is a bad, bad, man).He is also tied to Iran.Iran is real trouble, right or wrong,Iran is trouble. Also there is the Drug trade going threw his Country to the US.People involved in drugs ain't to cool, but whatever about that. All and all I would say he is neither Hero or Villain, just your average dictator, but not as bad as some.

Hugo Chavez is a crazed dictator. His people are starving and he doesn't even give a sh!t. He runs another oil infused third-world country.

Is Hugo on YA? Who else could be psycho enough to give these good and truthful answers a thumbs down? If you love Hugo or Castro for that matter you are sick and I hope who did it never truly learns what it is like to live under regimes like theirs. I would never wish that on anyone.

Any man, who after being elected in a democratic election turns around and decides that he is president for life and that no further elections are required or allowed, is a megalomaniac and a despot. That is all anyone needs to know about this socialist monster.

Does that pin him down enough for you?

Chavez is the bug-bear of the USA, and no wonder they hate him. He has dared challenge the might of the present US administration and taunted them about the idiocy of many of their policies. Chavez has shown that he is not anti-American, as witness his generous donation to the victims of Katrina.
All that is a good thing, but Chavez has to be careful not to over-egg it. Some would question whether one can overdo the caricaturing of Bush since he himself is his own cartoon! Only time will tell if Chavez is a true democrat. But he is a refreshing change from all those supine poddles that one gets around Bush. And at least he hasn't killed over 100,000 innocent people in Iraq.

Only history will tell.
Ask yourself who is doing the writing.
Is it his people or outsiders?
Some regard him as bad.Others revere him.
Well, my view about revolutions depends on which way the muzzle points on the gun !
