I am pondering a switch from pay as you go to contract. I want to find out which mobile phone service provider has the best reception if I was to take out a contract phone.

Ho, ho, ho.

Its the late Noughties, not the 1990s - reception is no longer an issue now.

There are mobile phone receivers hidden in:

Office blocks
Flats
Trees
Lamp posts
Farm buildings
Industrial sites
The list goes on....

What I am trying to say is that back in the 90s, when mobiles were just beginning to get commercially popular and available there were nowhere near as many mobile phone masts since the market didn't demand it; not enough people were using mobiles.

Now everyone has one and reception is simply not an issue with ANY operator unless you live up a high mountain or in the Outer Hebrides, which I doubt you do. The huge increase in customers has meant mobile phone operators have placed receivers EVERYWHERE.

So, lose the 1990s reject opinion of cellular technology and simply find the best deal possible on whichever operator it is. Reception differing on individual network operators is utter, weapons-grade bullsh!t. Differing reception between operators is such a misnomer these days that if you do suffer from bad reception, it is more likely to be your PHONE than the operator itself.

And even if you do "wonder" into an area where your operator does not have a mast, then your mobile will automatically switch into the next nearest mast and it doesn't matter which operator "hosts" it. So why would anyone ever have a reception issue these days unless they are using a leather case lined with lead.....

I'm on an orange contract and I always have a good reception. They have good deals too, like unlimited calls or texts depending on how much you want to pay each month and which package you choose.
Before having my contract I was with o2 pay as you go, their reception was good too.

It really just depends on where you are going to use the phone most though.

Hope this helps =]

It all depends where you are in the UK, ask your friends and colleagues who they use, see what they think. They re in a better position to answer your question than anybody on here. Most of the networks have 99% population coverage, but how good a signal you would get is never stated. The only people to trust with a question like this are people local to you, once you have chosen if you have any questions regarding service or systems or how things may work give us a shout.

Orange is really quite good(defo not the best though) but reception depends also on the phone as well. If it is old, been used a fair bit I fine these dont get as good a signal as the latest and greatest ones with all the mod cons!

O2 or Vodaphone.

First, I had T Moblile, reception was rubbish. Then, I had Orange, through work, they were better but still had a lot of areas where I couldn't get reception. Am now with Vodaphone and have not had a problem. Other people have told me O2 is good.

I think the best way is to find which company has the best reception near your home and work, as that is where phone gets most use.

go with three, they not only have some fantastic deals, they have fantastic coverage and so many extras it's unreal,
I can watch tv from my phone 49p per day, download music search the net (free) and much more, I have been with lots of different companies before but three are by far the best I would recommend to anyone www.three.co.uk

For over ten years (from One2One days), I've used T Mobile throughout the UK (including hilly areas of Scotland and Wales), also T Mobile partners in the USA and Europe and, apart from one small area in Maryland, I've _never_ had any problems with getting a good signal. I won't be changing, anyway. (NB I don't work for T Mobile!)

I think T-Mobile, which i have and never have a problem. A word of warning DO NOT GET A 3 PHONE it is widely known that they have cheap tarriffs, but it's only cos you can't seem to get reception anywhere!!
