"L7" means "square", which is slang for an uncool person. It comes from making the "L" shape with one hand and the "7" shape with the other. Connect them together and you have a square shape.

Example: "Don't be such an L7 man! Let's go to the party!"

For the most part the lyrics describe the ascension to hipness of two girls named "Hattie" and "Mattie". "Let's not be L-7s, come and learn to dance". The term L-7 means "square" from forming the letter and number with the thumbs and forefingers.

L7 means to be a square, or uncool, by putting your hands together forming a L and a 7 you get a square. Paul McCartney talks about how that inspired him to come up with the phrase C Moon, which means something complete like a circle (put a c together with a half moon and you have a complete circle).
