I'll tell You a story. A friend of Mine was a former Show Girl and Exotic Dancer. When She was dying She asked Me to help Her make all the arrangements for Her funeral. No one was allowed to wear black. Champagne was served. There were balloons and a 'disco ball'. It was not a funeral but a celebration of Her life. We got up on the 'stage' in full Los Vegas show costume and sang songs from Musicals rather than hymns. We finished with "I've always Dreamed of Doing It" (It's from the original 'Elvira' movie: 'Mistress of the Dark') as Her coffin was lowered into Her grave. She went out just the way She wanted to. Just like the Lady she was, and with a standing ovation.
Inappropriate? Perhaps. Last wishes of a true Friend honored? Most definitely. So You see, nothing is inappropriate if it does the job of comforting the bereaved.

Yes because you are remembering them. Thier last wishes should be carried out for the simple fact that this song really must have had a meaning to it for them. And THAT is the important thing.
My grandma past away two months ago, and before her death, she made several requests. One was to have one of her grand daughters hubby give the eulogy, one was that NO ONE was to wear black to the funeral, one was that it was to be treated as the celebration of her life, and not the mourning of her death. She was 102, and had us play the song "When I get where I am going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton!!! We gladly fulfilled those wishes, and we celebrated this little old ladies life with the many smiles and memories that she gave us!!!

How can a song that someone requests for their funeral be inappropriate? Keep your own narrow-minded opinions out of it and honour the wishes on the departed.
I want my funeral to be a party celebrating my life, with my favourite music. So is my wanting to play Master of Puppets by Metallica inappropriate too?

I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith. Just so it will get everyone all teary. Then play something uplifting (like the Lollipop song from the Dell advert).

Well it depends how much you loved the guy. If you were close to him, you should understand where he was coming from when he asked for that song to be played. If it were someone I loved, and it was in their legal will, I would play it.

It was their last request so yes I would. And I'd also be in the back of the room giggling beyond oblivion!

No - my cousin is adamant he wants 'Highway to Hell' by AC/DC, which, if he was to pass anytime soon (touch wood) would destroy his mother and his grandparents to hear that..
I'm sure there is a much more appropriate song that will suit him and do justice to the life he lived, so that's why I wouldn't..
