The ONLY way to get rid of ants is to get rid of the queen. You can do this by spreading INSTANT grits everywhere (just make sure they do not get wet) the ants will take the grits back to the queen, she will eat them, she will dehydrate and die...the rest of the colony will do the same. You can also pour vinager (the real kind, not dead vinager) around your compost bin and they ants may be detered by the smell...

Boric acid will keep ants out 100% of the time, you simply pour it around wherever you dont want them, but not recommended if you have pets or kids....

Why would you want to? Ants are an important element of the composting process and are of little if any problem in a garden.

If you MUST, there is an ant poison that is like a honey to them, which they gorge themselves on and take back to the nest. This will eliminate the whole nest as they feed it to the grubs too.

But personally, I think it's a shame.

Black pepper , and lot´s of it, The ant´s will carry this into the egg-laying queen´s nest. She will then move the ant´s out, Most people suggest boiling hot water , but this has very little affect, as the water never reaches far enough into the nest , to kill the egg-laying queen

Compost - the natural way to rid yourself of waste while building a useful product for the future. Ants are a part of the process, as are beetles, worms, bees, fungus, and all sorts of other "pests". Get rid of them and you might as well haul the stuff out to the curb.
