The reason that notions such as the supernatural is because it is an ingrained part of our existence and has survived in our collective consciousness in one form or another since the earliest days of Humanity.

It began as a way to explain and understand a World that was powerful and unknown and to ally our fears against what could potentially harm us, as well as entertain us.
But eventually a story spreads so far that it becomes part of our culture, our fears and our heritage.

And thus it is also a way to control a ignorant and already fearful population.

A prime example is the fear and presecution of so-called Witches throughout history.

Christians argue from an illogical supernatural base whilst the Scientists attempt to use logic but people are more willing to believe the Christina side because it is what they have always been taught and what remains within the Cultural Consciousness.

When it comes to the other forms of the supernatural -such as magic, ghosts, demons, angels, etc- we find it easy to belief because we do not know what the world is truly like and want to believe that we are not entirely in control of our own lives and therefore not to blame for anythign wrong that we may do.
Such asif we were to have evil/sinful thoughts, it must be The Devil putting them there in order to tempt us.
Or we believe in magic spells because we want to empower ourselves in some way and magic gives us a direct way to do so.

In short, we believe in the supernatural and can happy do so whilst also believing in science and logic, because it is easy to cling to what has always been there rather then step out into a World of uncertainity.
