I wouldn't be afraid to take them off. I was just a tiny bit worried the first couple of times I went barefoot in public but even then I did it with only a little hesitation; now, ten years later, I wouldn't care where I am or who's watching, I just go barefoot.

Only time I am afraid to take off my shoes, is in front of my mother when I am not wearing any socks. Have no idea why.

I take them off anyway. But it's always good to have sprayed some deodoriser on your feet beforehand to avoid stinking up the place.
