I have a black goldfish that we are naming. I thought it would be cute to name him Feeshay (Fishy...get it?) Most people have said they find it amusing but my boyfriend is worried that some african american people might think of it as racist. I think the color of the fish shouldn't matter because I'd name a orange one Feeshay too.

We did have a white mouse name Trash (White trash...haha) but we are white so everybody just thought it was kinda cute.

I know it's a cheesy pun and isn't meant to be hilarious. I just want to know if you would be offended if a white girl named her black fish Feeshay.

How many people are going to know what you've named your fish? I've had fish before and no one, other than people who came to the house, knew their names. (My favorite fish, by the way, are the black moors. You know, black with the large eyeballs and graceful fins. Very pretty. I always named them things like "Onyx", "Ebony" and "Noir.") Feeshay doesn't sound like something a black person would say, though. More like something a yuppie would say:) (I had a friend who's stepmother was a serious yuppie. She talked like that all the time. None of my black friends talk like that.)

Contrary to popular belief, black people don't get offended by every little thing. Sometimes I hear stuff about my people that was meant to be offensive but was funny. I think that name for your fish is hilarious. If anybody says that it isn't is just ignore them. That is their hangup, not yours.

LOL. There are too many problems in this world to be worded over a black fish. Girl name that fish whatever you want as long as you don't name him Kunta Kinte.

Name the fish whatever you'd like and don't worry about what people think. I think it's a cute name.

Thanks for asking, though! :-) I wish more people would think before they speak and ask before they assume.

Who cares what you call your fish, it's your prerogative.
Change it's name if it worries you, I am sure the fish won"t mind.

Why are you worried?

It's a fish.

I had a dog named Spot, never caused any problems with anyone.

If anyone asks, just tell them you wanted it to sound somewhat French.
