I recently bought a new 1024mb DDR2 Ram and placed it into my computer. (Along with another 1024mb DDR2)

Everything was fine and dandy in till XP was loading and then got that scary Blue Screen of Death which said

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
With other text with numbers on.

I took out my new DDR2 and just had 1 left and my computer is working fine?

I tried putting it back in but i either get the Blue Screen again or my computer starts going strange with letters in the wrong place and i cant understand a word its trying to tell me?

I also tried putting my new ram in and leaving my old one out. And it was fine so my new ram isn't broke or anything?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Actually your motherboard can handle 2GB. Its a bad memory slot on the board thats the problem. Expecially if the ram works in the other slot. You could try the new memory in the other slot and the old memory in the problem slot. See if you can recreate the problem. If it doesnt happen then your back in business.

Sometimes with new memory you will get alittle BSOD hickup. Then after that is okay but you have to try it again to verify if the slots crap or not.

That particular BSOD is sometimes misleading into being a hardware problem or a software one. What programs do you have loading at boot and hold long did it get into windows before it BSOD on you.

Same error. Hmm

Just because it boots doesn't mean it isn't bad! I Had a similar problem...finally realized it was infact the ram after it fried my MoBo. (Mainboard/Motherboard)

I'll give you a couple of cool tools to use, and a link if I still have it...to read exactly what your unlisted error really means!

If what you wrote is correct, your memory might not be the same. (ones faster, or has a different latency, or one has/one doesn't have error correcting) Or bios isn't set up right!

Sorry it is long, couldn't get dirrect link!

Windows Driver Kit: Driver Development Tools
Bug Check 0xA: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bug check has a value of 0x0000000A. This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.

Parameters
The following parameters are displayed on the blue screen.

Parameter Description
1 Memory referenced
2 IRQL at time of reference
3 0: Read

1: Write

4 Address which referenced memory

Cause
This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.

The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.

This Stop message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory address to which it did not have permission to access.
Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might resolve this error. You should also run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer, especially the memory scanner.
This is was provided by Microsoft. There may be more to your problem so check out Microsoft's site.

It sounds like the Motherboard doesn't support 2Gb of memory. If both sticks have been tried on their own and are totally compatable, with no problems, you need to check the Motherboard Specs as It appears that you are putting too much RAM in. If that is the case, go to the Motherboard manufacturer's website and see if their is an update for your board.
