I am a complete novice. I am hoping to buy cheap clothes and customize them, plus make some clothes myself.

Check out the market - there are a LOT of low end clothing stores ..

As a 'rule of thumb' , to make any profit after overheads etc. you have to SELL at double the cost of BUYING -- so, for example, if you want to sell T shirts at £1, these must cost you 50p (or less) to buy ...
