Whilst there is no doubt that some criticism can be fairly made about the McCanns leaving their children alone, it is also fair to say that a lot of those comments are extremely sick and unbalanced, so much so that I personally wonder whether some people out their are unsuitable parents.
They would clearly give up very quickly if it were their child that disappeared.
And they clearly do not believe that doing everything possible is the right way to go in these dreadful circumstances..

bb3003; I note the subtle change.
Fantasising again I see. I'm stalking you now am I?
Good God I'd be off my head!
Let's see.
1) You have claimed I tried to date you and you turned me down.
Strange that; seeing as you also claim to have given me a sexually transmitted rash.
You have tried the usual pathetic female put down.
I really don't give a damn about your threat of police action , you are just pathetic.
Oh! and where in my question did I mention you?

Pooh Face: Your thoughts on the McCanns are on the same track as my own, yes they deserve criticism for leaving their children unattended but all the other criticism is way of beam.
And does anyone seriously believe that there is a worse punishment than what they are going through now and will do for the rest of their lives.

I think you should all read the question properly.
Many of you clearly believe that it is targeted at every person that has expressed an opinion not favourable to the McCanns.
My point was that so many people seem more interested in making weird allegations against them without showing the slightest interest in the possibility of a safe return of the little girl.
They are the ones I call sickos.

bb3003: I quote you" I never leave my child, not even for a second". How on earth do you ever manage to smoke a cigarette then.
On a different note I do notice and have taken on board what you say about your personal circumstances.
You may not believe me but you have my admiration for what you do for your daughter.
I am not the unfeeling b*****d you so clearly think I am.
I am a trained firefighter, qualified first aider and an officer of a trade union, unpaid, who does the job because I care about the well being of my fellow workers.
I also enjoy a scrap and got the impression that you gave as good as you got.

bb3003: I didn't offer sympathy, As I said earlier you have my admiration for the way you have looked after your daughter.
As for me making personal remarks about you, you may recall that in earlier replies to a question of mine you yourself got rather personal, I was only responding in kind.
I suggest that we call a truce, no doubt we will find something else to fight about in the not too distant future, but let's enjoy it as a good honest scrap, what do you say?

anti mccann people would make excellent parents, they would not take their eyes of their children for a single second or let them walk more than 5 yards ahead of them, they would wrap their kids up in cotton wool. and before all the thumbs down start i know that what they did by leaving 3 small children in an unlocked room is unacceptable BUT those of you that have not been parents and those of you who are cannot judge them unless you have never ever put a foot wrong in raising children, we as parents make mistakes every day and whilst this was the mother of all mistakes can we all say hand on heart that we have not put our children at some risk in one way or another ? smoking in front of them, speeding or pulling out on someone whilst the kids were in the back seat, letting them play on the front then going inside to answer the phone, leaving your child alone in the bath for just a minute with the front door unlocked. ppl have done all these things and they have resulted in the death or the abduction of a child yet i only see slanderous posts about the one family. yes it was wrong but you are not pure and for that reason i cannot support the evil rants.

I think it is very harsh to call people that criticise the McCanns actions as "sickos". In my eyes the only "sicko" is the person who has Madeleine isn't it? I haven't seen many sick and unbalanced comments, mainly comments from angry and concerned people, most of who are actually parents themselves I think you will find. I personally, do not have kids of my own (unable to unfortunately), but I have 3 stepchildren and I would never leave children of that age on their own. I think telling people that because they have a critical opinion of the McCanns they could be unsuitable parents if pretty harsh and hurtful. No parent would "give up very quickly" if it were their child, but I think you are missing the point that no-one is actually seeing what the McCanns are doing to find Maddy and no-one can see where the money (more than was raised for the Tsunami appeal) is going. I would be wearing my shoe leather out walking door to door with photos, information etc. if it were my child and I also would have come back to the UK a bit more often for the sake of my other children. No-one says they deserved it, no-one deserves that, especially not Madeleine, but attacking people having an opinion on Gerry and Kates parenting skills is not the answer either.

I do believe there is more to this than meets the eye. I am good at body language and feel that sometimes Gerry's body language is less than favourable as are both of there words. Personally I feel that they are covering something up but that dosen't make me a bad parent. I would never give up trying to find my child but to use public money on trips around the world is bad. As is leaving small children alone in an apartment for an evening. But hey I'm not judging, thats just the way I see it after reading about the case and studying footage. I am not sick or unbalanced and I sincerely hope Madeleine is found safe and well.

The same could be said for people on both sides of the 'McCann debate'. Many Pro McCanns have actually wished harm on others children. One accused 'Pro McCanns' of being 'no better than the paedophiles that have got her'.
Some people are incapable of having a debate without getting heated and resorting to name calling and insults.
'Doing everything possible'? Care to give us some examples of how the McCanns are 'doing everything possible' to find their daughter? They have barley left the resort she was lost in other than to go to 'meetings' and 'campaign briefings' not forgetting the wholly important day out to see the Pope and the Shrine of Fatima. Not exactly looking hard are they? They whipped up a frenzy surrounding themselves which meant there was a lot of sympathy and plenty people to do their dirty work for them. Have the actually put posters up themselves? What about the 2 guys fro Glasgow who DROVE to Portugal with a huge inflatable banner? They were thanked and that was all.
Short of going to a concert and moaning about the quality of a private jet that was sent to them they haven't really done much have they?

To bad you could not ask my kids this. Yes my kids that are all sleeping soundly now in their beds. The kids that were put to bed last night in a locked house with their mother right here with them who could have easily said geez I need a drink and they are all sleeping what could possibly happen to them while they are sleeping. You see where I am from it is against the law to leave your children under the age of 10 home alone so therefore it would be a crime. Have a made mistakes?Sure I have but I have never in my life broken the law and that includes speeding. I have never even done that.
I would like to see a link that shows the McCanns are doing everything possible outside of raising money and getting infront of cameras. I have yet to see a picture of them in their best hiking boots, walking the land searching the desolite areas, putting on scuba gear and diving in the nearby water areas. Why is it ok for you to have the opinion that all parents that are not favorable of the parents behaviour are neglectful parents but it is not ok for me to have my opinions about Gerry and Kate McCann? How is it different at all? I am angry at your judgemental question and your assumption that I am a bad parent...I would guess to say to say alot of parents would be. It would be a natural reaction for a parent to be upset when someone accuses them of abuse and neglect. I guess there may be a couple parents out there in this world that would not show anger when someone asks them that question.
BTW My gram smoked in front of my dad for 50 years of his life and he is still alive and not missing..how is it the same?

I don't think anyone has suggested that they should have given up. What people have criticised is the way they have gone about it. The most obvious thing to have done, right at the start, was to hire the best firm of private detectives that they could afford.
They have come over as being more interested in money and celebrity and they have only themselves to blame if this is how many people see them. Targeting children at the Shrek film and now targeting children collecting their copies of the latest Harry Potter book is the outside of enough.

I ain't NO SICKO...thank you very much. Firstly my anger toward them is the fact they left their children to go and jolly it up. Just disgusting. I couldn't care less about their efforts to find her, fair enough they are trying, but it's the way they have done it...a media circus. I am a mother to 4, aged 10, 4, 2 and 1 and I would NEVER EVER leave them in a foreign country whilst me and my husband went out for a meal. It just makes my blood boil thinking about it. Like I have read before, there was also risk of fire and all the other dangers that are about when children are left alone. And yes if any of my kids went missing....I would give up and probably be on anti depressants for the rest of my life. Sorry but that is fact I would die for my kids!!!
