Well, if you have endometriosis then the doctor can do laser surgery where he burns off the endometrial tissue that is found outside the uterus.

Hey, I fully sympathise with you. Your "little" operation sounds like a laparoscopy, which is the insertion of a camera type device which can look around your abdominal cavity, and see if there are any abnormalities, such as cysts or endometriosis etc. Your abodiminal cavity will be filled up with a gas which allows your surgeon to have a good look around.

The incisions are very small on about 1cm in lenth, and you will get approximately 4 of them, which start in your belly button, just above where you pubic hair starts, and one on either side of your abdomen. They heal very quickly.

You will be in hospital for a day or two following your surgery, and then will be released home to be cared for by your family. You just need to take it easy for about 10days post your surgery, but you will be fine.

As for the pain, it is a mild discomfort, and is easily controlled with regular analgesic. The pain will be nothing like the pain you currently have!!

If you are young, your mum will be allowed to come into the recovery room if you make prior arrangements with your surgeon.

This operation isnt as bad as it sounds, and it will knock you around a little but, but its worth it in the end!

If you want any advice, please email me, as I am a chronic sufferer of endometriosis since I was 16, and have had 3 of these operations, and am currently awaiting my fourth. Im also a nurse.

Good luck! ;-)

Period pains usually go away with pills. Just see if the pills WORK first. If not, then worry about the operation.

Ask your doctor to explain it to you, we have no idea what they are planning. Probably an exploratory surgery where they will cut 3 small incisions, and insert a camera and instruments to prod and take tissue samples. But ask your doctor, not us.
