What tail will my fries have?

I tried breeding around a week ago, and it was successful. My white half moon and my dark blue round-tail bred and all that stuff. Right now almost all are swimming, and they have dark heads but white bodies. Will they have both white and dark blue colors, or will they be only one. And will they have halfmoon tails or round?

In a span of a month, how big does a fry get?

You will get mostly what is referred to as marbled bettas, meaning 2 colors with no real pattern. Depending on the type of white betta you have, they may have lots of blue showing or just a little. I would expect some of the blue along their heads to be covered with the opaque white assuming your white betta is an opaque, but more blue will probably develop in their fins and bodies as they mature.

Most will be round tailed fish, but you will see the half moon influence in them. Basically somewhere in between the two and very few if any really good specimens of either tail type.

The growth rate will be so strongly influenced by tank size, temperature and food that it's really hard to predict their size at one month.

It is normal for all Betta fry to have dark heads and white bodies. It takes many weeks for them to get colors. The dark heads are most likely the eyes that you are seeing. Fry grow at their own rate. I have a 11 week old spawn and some are about 1.6 inches and some are much smaller. The key to your Betta Fry's growth is the right nutrition and water changes that are done often. The larger fry let off a hormone that will stunt the growth of smaller fish. The less of this in a tank, the better the fry will grow. Also when you get to the point where there are much larger ones in the tank with the smaller ones you will need to separate the bigger fry into grow out tanks. Then the smaller fry will continue to grow. Usually a one month old fry should be about 0.45 inches long.
As for the tail types, I can't tell you. I always breed a pair with the same tail type. That way you have a true tail type. I will pass this along to a Betta breeder that has more knowledge about finnage than I do. Congratulations on your successful spawn!
