It depends. USB Flash Drives will say how much they store on the package. Often such a measurement is given in "Megabytes" or "MB." On such a scale:

a CD holds 700 MB
a DVD holds 4812 MB.

It could also say "Gigabytes" or "GB" in which case you'll have to multiply the number you see on the box by 1024 to get the number of "Megabytes."

Common flash drive sizes are 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB (new).

Technically there's a 64 GB as well (http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/29/buslinks-64gb-usb-2-0-flash-drive-pro-2-series/) but it's not really available anywhere.

I am afraid it depends on the kind of usb flash/ drive you have. USB flash usually holds more than a CD but less than of a DVD. A USB drive can hold as many information as your hard drive, ten twenty times more than a DVD. But again it depends of the kind of USB drive.
CD-ROM = 750MB (aprox)
DVD = 4.7 GB (aprox) that's 6 CD-ROMs)
USB flash = usually 1/2 of a DVD
USB Drive = usually between 100GB and 300GB

It all depends on the size of the flash or USB memory e.g 256 MB, 512MG, 1 GB etc. A CD usually is 700 MB, a single layer DVD 4.7 GB and a dual layer DVD 8.5 GB (I think).

i have a flash drive that holds 4 GB and utilises usb2.(its fast) i prefer using this to dvd's or cd's. However, for sheer bulk of data i use dual layer dvd's which are 8.5GB
