Jealousy usually, you got something I want, and if I can't have it I'm going to make sure you cant either.

It's called being human.

Selfishness is actually a basic human need.

At it's core is the need for survival even if it means someone else dies. If you and a friend are dying of starvation (it may not happen in this country now, but it did at one time and still happens elsewhere in the world) and there's only enough food to properly sustain one person, are you really going to give the food away? Your moral instinct may urge you to do just that but your survival instinct ... or the Selfish Gene as Richard Dawkins called it will be screaming at you to keep the food for yourself.

Some people have a survival-of-the-fittest mentality. This means the nastier they are the moreprotected they feel. I don't subscribe to this, and prefer to treat others as I expect to be treated myself.

because they want to make themselves feel better and seem like they are more important but to be honest we are all equal and shoouldnt be treated differently.
people that are nasty need a taste of their own medicine to show them how worthless it makes others feel.!!

People feel inferior and insecure about themselves, so they feel they have to drag orthers down to feel better about themselves.

People also feel they are treated unfair because they are less successful or people get away with things done on them, and so they feel they have to get back at people, especially innocent, defenceless people.
