Is it so other drivers will think, "Ooh, it's just as well I've seen your sticker, because I was thinking about ramming into the back of your car"?

Or is it just some kind of celebration that you've managed to procreate?

Nope. It's to alert the emergency services to the fact that there is a baby in the car in the event of a crash. These signs are only meant to be shown when your child is travelling in the car as if there were a serious accident the services may waste valuable time searching for a child on finding an empty child safety seat!

They originate from Down Under. It was to warn paramedics and other emergency services to look for a baby if the car had rolled. For some unknown reason the rest of the world followed suit. I have a two year old and I don't feel the need to have a sticker in my car. Nor does it make me drive any safer if I see someone with a sticker in the back of their car. I drive as safe as I can regardless of who or what is on the road.

My thoughts exactly! I always say that those stickers should have another line on them - 'Baby on Board - **** in Driver's Seat'.
Surely everyone who is on the road is taking as much care as they can anyway! How is a stupid sticker going to make any difference - how can you drive any better when you are driving at your best!

Also, ask any Firefighter on a RTC shout, sticker is in the car but the kid isn't, they were left at home or something, what happens - you get firefighters looking for a kid that isn't even there!

Bloody stupid idea - I would never have one!!

Good question - have a star!

They're proud.

If the car crashes, and is a mangled wreck, seeing that sign might alert the emergency services to the fact an infant could be in the car.
Of course, it could backfire because the baby may not have been in the car ... panic for nothing!

Also, it's a way of asking other drivers to be patient ... the driver may be distracted by the baby crying etc, and not as quick to pull away etc.

Perhaps it is to let other road users know that their driving may not be 100% because they could have a screaming or crying baby in the car - they could have a lapse of concentration, so watch their every move carefully and expect the unpredictable. I don't believe the reason is for the emergency services.

I don't have one, but the idea is to warn other drivers that there are frgaile youngsters in the car, so please be extra careful not to crash into me, as they probably won't survive.

Plus, if you are close enough to read those stickers on the motorway, then you are way too close.

No, it is in case of an accident, the Emergency Services are made aware that are small children in the car! I cannot tolerate the "Babe on board" joke ones!

I think it is because )as you have said) they want everyone to know they have a child (as if no-one else has ever had one before)
people should be driving with care all the time, not just when a child is involved.

The late US comedian Bill Hicks take on these stickers is the best "I'm supposed to modify 20 years of driving behaviour just because you can't keep your legs together?!"

I have often wondered that myself!

I guess its a sort of "Back off my bumper - I have a vulnerable young person on board" sign.

I personally also think it says, "Child on board, driver possibly can easily become harassed, distracted and suffer with road rage if pushed" ???
