The best word is Serendipity.

And the best work of fiction - Mary Stewarts Crystal Cave series (about King Arthur) and a book by John Gordon Davis called The Years of the Hungry Tiger. It's about a love story between a communist chinese girl and a British policeman, during the Hong Kong years.
