My computer nerd buddies told me when I asked them this same question that Originally Windows XP was not able to support DirectX 10 because Microsoft wanted to scam us all into buying their crummy new OS with all the nicely shaded buttons and stuff.

After pressure from game development companies Microsoft buckled and removed their little bit of cheeky programing to allow XP to support DX10.

I still don't quite understand because XP isn't 64bit and all but they said a patch of some kind is going to be released.

I could have this totally wrong so it's best you check out a blog discussion on a PC gaming web site to find out whats really going on. Microsoft are full of **** and are holding us all to ransom.

If the game doesn't use Direct X 10 functions, then Vista would be no use to you. If you try Vista on an older game, it might not work. Vista has a host of problems so I can't tell you want works and what doesn' work.

Vista is still to new to truthfully answer the question. Wait on Vista for a few generations to go through B4 you start to compare it to other systems. For now stick to a PS3 or X-Box for the best gaming options

windows vista will support direct x 10 games but your card will then be outdated
as for direct x 9 games i think they have less issues in xp
i am using intel core 2 duo ,3 gb ram and 500 gb hard disk partitoned into 5 drives,i have win xp + vista dual boot, but my card is outdated too it nvidia geforce6200 le

so when i try playing games such as need for peed carbon in xp they run fine
but in vista
some don't run and carbon gets slow sometimes

so i would suggest you to game in xp

There might be a few games out there which run on DX10...but they'll be too heavy for your 7300, which isn't even a DX10 card. So you'll be playing Dx10 games on a Dx9 card, without the special Dx10 effects, and very very slowly.
