Me and my bf friend want to buy a lap top, we dont really know what to buy, brand etc. We will just use it for internet (gonna use orange broadband as we get it free with his phone), email, our i pods and our pictures from phones and digital camera's. Any idea's,? What sort of memory would we need?

Paid £350 for mine, fujitsu seimens, got it at staples, cheaper than PC world, Curry's etc.
Quite a high spec, Also bought 300Gb portable hard drive. Tons of space for storage of Music and Photo's
Mp3 player is Cowon iAudio 30 Gb,
Got the lot for under £500 6 months ago.
Laptops are great but some of the budget ones won't play games well. Use it for work as well, it plays with everything I need it for. Just go for the best you can afford!!!

These are fairly easy needs for a laptop. You could chose almost any of the standard laptops out there.
I prefer a Sony if I have a Sony camera since it is much easier to work with the media. Actually, Sony's are one of my favorites in general.
Dell, HP, etc are all well made as well, not knocking them at all.
As with most laptops, what you buy is what you have! Things like the screen and cpu are impossible to upgrade, so choose those carefully!
Get one with Wireless 802.11b/g builtin, try to get a faster hard drive like 7,200rpm, get the largest wide screen, and fastest cpu you can. Intell Core 2 Duo. Possibly consider a tv tuner builtin!!!

But be prepared to pay $1500 to $3000 FOR A GOOD LAPTOP.
aND, YOU KNOW, A mAC LAPTOP IS JUST ABOUT IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE!!! Definately check them out as well. Excellent units.

For your laptop, I would get either a compaq, mac, or dell. In fact, dell just came out with a brand new laptop call the XPS M1710. This laptop has a 4GB memory and a 17 inch widescreen. You can store lots of data including music, movies, and photos. Its a good system. Check it out.

Just a thought, you can get much more "bang for your buck" with a desktop machine, plus it's more easily repairable/upgradeable etc. However, the portability of a laptop may be more important for you. If so, I'd agree with Jonh R about the latest Dell machines.

i would try a specialist pc shop. One good one in London is Micro Anvika, if they see this can i get a rebate, monetary remuneration.....
I wouldn't go to PC world, Curry's cause you can cheaper elsewhere with better after sales service.
Sony, Hewlett Packard are good makes i think. Don't know about memory though.
