I have bought vitamins online from the US because they are a fraction of the price of the same vitamins here. As the value of the vitamins is less than £70 why have I been charged tax on them at the Post Office?

All imported goods are subject to duty and VAT unless it is a bona-fide gift below whatever the gift exemption amount is. Since the goods were purchased and are not a gift they are dutiable. Sorry!

I believe you only have to pay tax if you buy it in your state. if you live in california and you buy an item in texas (only over the internet transaction ) you dont have to pay taxes . BUT if you livein california and go to texas to buy an item and your at the store you have to pay taxes on the spot
