i've recently been catching up with lots of people from school and 1 of the only people i haven't seen around or been able to get hold of is an ex (well i say an ex but we were 13 & together for about 6 months!)....so i wrote a card inviting him (& his partner) to a party i am having in the next few weeks.the card was only friendly & just said something along the lines of 'hi, havent seen you for ages & just wanted to say hi...im having a party in the next few weeks & id really like to get some old friends together if youd like to come. bring your wife/girlfriend. either way it would be nice to hear from you. give me a text or an email' & i gave him my email address & mob no.

well....i got an email from someone in his family saying that the guy in question and his wife didnt want any contact from me and that they would appreciate it if i left them alone as they are married and kids!

i feel so stupid but also feel like they have acted a tad over the top. what do u think?

I don't think you did anything wrong, but you gotta realize people react differently to different situations. An old girlfriend contacting a guy she used to be with would make the girl he is with uncomfortable, I'm not even too sure how the rest of the family got in on it. It's just a misconstrued invitation, don't feel stupid and forget about it.

This is coming from a 28 year old guy,

I take it your like 26 or so.

No, I don't see any harm in what you had done.

In fact if something like that happened to me i would feel kind of cool that they remembered me and all,

as a lot of people when you are 13 will have forgotten about you,

WHo know's maybe they weren't even told about this and some family member is making the decision for them.

I would look at it this way, It just might not be meant to be.

at 13 your relationship was probably an young and innocent crush. unless you slept with him you did nothing wrong by the invite. it was a friendly gesture. most people would be happy to hear from old friends. if his wife is so insecure knowing he had a girlfriend when he was 13 then they have issues. wait long enough i'll bet he'll be divorced and you could invite him to another party

Family made the stupid statement and not the person you wrote the invite to? Sounds like someone is still attached to mommies apron strings. Don't fret it any. You invited this person and his significant other. The response you got was childish and not worthy of your time. You're OK!

You did not do anything wrong. He evidently has a bit#h for a wife. It is sad that they can not attend a party with old friends. It wasn't as if you did not include her too!!!

Then, again, they may be having problems in their marriage too. You just never know.

seems a bit like overkill, I think they may have over reacted, maybe it was his wife and she is extremly jealous type, then you have to think, wow, the poor guy.
