Straightforward enough. You exist, you consume, you destroy, you die, and you probably don't contribute a lot to society, the earth, or the unverse. How do you justify your existence? How is it a positive thing that you exist?

I am not passing judgment on any individual. I personally cannot justify my own existence, and have come to the conclusion that my life is utterly valueless.

To those who simply stated that they didn't have to justify their existence to me: do you not find it a little disconcerting that you cannot justify your existence on this earth. You don't have to justify anything to me, but can you justify it to yourself?

To OmnisArs: Seriously, does any of that manner? Do you, or any of the people that you have helped have any real value? The entire human race is incredibly insignificant on the larger scale, and you have only benefited a small number of people in your lifetime.

I must respectfully say you're partly wrong -- I assure you, I contribute to society and the earth.

I justify my existence by living benevolently. Things like contributing money, volunteering, and doing other things to help people -- and doing so anonymously whenever possible. I'm the type of man who, when in line behind a kid who's short of the required money to buy something, offers to pay the difference. If I overhear a co-worker talking about having financial difficulties, I'll drop a $20 grocery store gift card on their desk when they're away. I pray daily for those in the world who are hungry or homeless or in distress or suffering torment or dying in the hospital.

I would never, ever throw trash on the ground or out a car window. In fact, I don't have a car -- too much trouble to deal with, and I like that I'm not contributing to pollution.

I could go on, but I won't. I already feel like I've bragged. The point is, there ARE people who are not malevolent, self-centered, callous clods. You know, well-mannered, ethical, courteous, and kind. It's sometimes discouraging to know how much of a minority I'm in, but that doesn't dissuade me from trudging onward.

i guess the people that reallly matter are the ones that have made a difference in people's lives, but then again those people die too. the only people that truly have made an impact are those who are in the textbooks or who are written about.

if youre confused as to what you're doing here, im pretty sure everyone else is to. stop focusing on existing. try LIVING, because most people just exist, consume, destroy, then die. LIVE.

Your question really presupposes a Creator.

If there is no Creator with a plan, then consuming and destroying are no better or worse than conserving and building. When you say "a positive thing", you presuppose that there is a universal direction called positive that people OUGHT to recognize.

Your question can only be asked by our Creator, i.e. "I put you on earth to do good, to be compassionate, to be just, to help others and what have you done?"

i just do whats within my reach. and i believe if its got the universe involved- its within Gods reach. not mine. i realize well enough that i am not equipped to contribute to the whole universe. has there been anyone yet?

plus, i dont think i owe the society or the earth or the universe my justification of existence and i dont think the universe or the society or the earth is fit to judge which is justified and which is not. even if they do, imagine them listening to each of our so called justification. like there's no life to live. i bet the next humane question to ask is which justification is justified? why his? and why not mine?

its soo beyond. i wouldnt bother to fathom.

to answer your second question- i personally believe that even a speck of dust, a ray of light, a droplet of water has its reason and worth to exist in this whole planet, what more a human?

Yes, I am existed, and my existence is decided millions of years ago, when the life started on this earth and that day, it was prophesied my existence for which I have been here, and not at my interest or desire i was forcibly dragged to this earth. And just like you I am also seeking justification for my existence but whom can I ask? No one took my permission for my existence. Any how for the sake of you and this universe I am here and I am quite sure it is positive with me and may be all of you are existing here due to me.

You make it sound as if we have to come up on the positive side of some great big ledger in order to justify our existence. In "The Rhodora," he poet says "If eyes were made for seeing / Then beauty is its own excuse for being." Seems like you could say the same of life and everyone in it.

at first, id see my good qualities and how it would affect the environment around me. religion would play a role by saying things on kindness. now, to make myself feel valuable, id take those good qualities of mine and see how they would benefit those around me in a good way.

all these conclusions, u may call them assumptions justified that i was here for a reason to benefit the world and the by product would be me getting love, respect, money etcetra in return.

on a personal note, i don't think bout anything now. just try to have fun and relax.

I justify my existence by withstanding every storm of life and living the most of it because who knows? Maybe tomorrow is my time, right?
