I have a dog and cat in my house and yesterday found several small brown dead worms on our carpet. I even found a live one this morning (which was happily swimming in our loo when i tried to get rid of him). All the animal worm pics i have seen don't match these worms - they are small and thin and brown not white at all and not very long. The other odd thing is that they are usually found near a large pot plant in my living room. They are not garden worms but i don't know if they are coming from my pets or my plant? The soil in the pot has loads of little gnats living in it - could it be to do with that? I really need some advice as i have a 2yr old daughter and am heavily preg - don't want us to get worms! (I'm getting animals wormed today just in case).

Chances are these worms are coming from the plant. The simplest solution of ridding yourself of the gnats and the worms is to take the plant outside, shake off all the soil from the plant and replant in a good garden soil like MiracleGro or the like. This just sometimes happens usually because of too much water or it's been outside getting sun and something laid it's eggs on your plant. Anyhow, you needn't worry because the worms are not something you can "get".
They're just worms.

First of all, the gnats around your plants is an indication that you have parasites in that soil. They will eventually kill the plant. You have either watered that plant with rain water (most cases this is where they come from), or your soil you used came with infestation.

Preggy? Out goes the plant, and getting the animals wormed is a great idea, but ONLY by a professional, ok? Over the counter stuff is for amateurs!

They could also be in your carpet. A moth possibly has laid some eggs. Get rid of that plant!
