You can easily manage your startup programs and processes. You have alter startup configuration by following the configuration below:
However be careful to not uncheck any vital programs that could halt your PC startup. If this happens just simply restart your computer in "Safe Mode" and re-enable the program and services. Also remember to close all applications. Open applications are will not get defragmented.
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",
click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"
This site below will give me your visuals and list of unnecessary programs that you can uncheck. Hope this helps!

which certain programs and which certain icons ? OMG dude this question is vague to say the least.
so here is my vague answer. those certain programs have options or preferences u can set to run on windows start up or not, and the ones running in system tray have an option of minimizing to system tray - uncheck it and voila.
u could also check in Programs ->Startup and see if any programs are in there, and delete all the links in there. then u won't have any more programs run at startup
sure u can take the others' advice and run msconfig, but every time u restart ur windows u'll get a most annoying po-up box which says u modified the startup sequence, and click ok to continue. and this one u can't get rid of. u could use the startup.cpl but i haven't used it, so i dunno.
there is another option of searching the registry for the offending programs and delete them from \Local Machine\Software\Mircosoft\Windows\Run (or RunServices),
but this is a move i wouldn't recommend unless u really know what u are doing. u can mess up your computer permanently if u mess with the registry, so after loading regedit, save a backup of it, by selecting File-> Save as ... . If u don't, u risk too much.

Yes, there's a way for this.Just click on Start>Run and type 'msconfig'(without quote marks). Here you can see all programs that are loading at startup. You can choose the selective or diagnostic startup mode if you don't want all programs to start. If you want to delete a particular program from startup list you can download AVG Anti-Spyware(30-days trial). It will show you all programs that are loading and you can delete those that you don't want.
As far as the System Tray is concerned there is an option to hide the icons in the tray by right-clicking on the tray area and Customize Notifications option. To remove some items, most of them have an 'exit' option if you right click on them.

There are several ways of doing this but I find that the easiest way for me is to go to : http://www.mikelin.com and download a program called "Startup.cpl. It is a simple little program that has 5 or six tabs that show the various areas of your system that trigger programs to start whenever you startup your PC. Simply uncheck the box next to the program that you don't want to run. It's that simple. If you change your mind you can always go back and re-check it. By stopping these programs from loading at startup they should no longer appear in the system tray.
Windows has a similar utility called msconfig but I find Startup.cpl a little easier to use.
Good Luck,

You can remove that from the Tray. That's real easy.
Start>Run>msconfig(in the text box)>Startup tab>disable the items you don't want.
and click apply.
this will solve your problem. If you find the names cryptic you can go to start>all programs and startup and remove them there.
Thanks,
Kakes
