A kneazle is a cat-like creature that has the unique ability to detect when someone is suspicious, or acting in a suspicious or unsavory manner. When they detect such a person, they tend to react badly to them. Kneazles are also rather intelligent.

Crookshanks is a half-breed, half house cat and half kneazle. This is why he could tell Sirius was innocent and he went after Scabbers. Unlike a regular house cat who would just have been hunting, Crookshanks could tell Scabbers wasn't what he appeared to be. Which became clear when Sirius and Lupin forced Pettigrew to return to human form, thus proving Sirius's story that it was Pettigrew and not himself who betrayed James and Lily to Voldemort.

The kneazle is a small catlike creature with flecked, speckled, or spotted fur, outsize ears, and a tail like a lion's. The kneazle is intelligent, independent, and occasionally aggressive, though if it takes a liking to a witch or wizard it is an excellent pet. It also has an uncanny ability to detect suspicious characters (i.e. Peter Pettigrew/Scabbers). The kneazle will also safely guide a lost owner home

They are like cats, though usually larger, and extremely intelligent and intuitive. Like their own brand of mild magic :)

Read Fantastic Beasts, it tells you about all the creatures in the Potterverse, lol :)
