The pap smear itself doesn't break the hymen but the instrument used to do it called a speculum can depending on the size of the instrument that is used. If it's a smaller speculum then the hymen will only get stretched.

The tampon could possibly break the hymen as well, again depending on the size you are using.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

Pap smears aren't normally performed on a woman who is not sexually active, but it depends on whatever doctor/clinic you visit as to whether a Pap will be performed. A Pap smear is performed to detect cervical cancer and isn't considered a sexual activity performed upon the hymen, so if you have a test, you should more than likely be safe.

I'm not sure about the use of a Tampon, but I know I never used them until after I was married.

Pap smear usually won't because the doctor is gentle. Tampons or any physical activity can break your hymen. All it is, is a small thin tissue. Very easy to break for most women.

If you are asking these questions you are too young to be having sex and don't know enough to keep yourself from getting pregnant.

Getting pap smears will not hurt you and may save your life.
