Older CRT monitors had this problem.
I have been told from several sources that LCD monitor cannot burn in images. I have also never seen any LCD monitors with burn in.

Yes it can actually. I work as a mainframe operator and we have consoles and LCD screens which we never turn off. On the consoles we have terminal apps open and inside the terminal app the mainframe outputs job info and so it scrolls continuously. Now if you were to minimize the terminal window you would see that the areas of the terminal where the job is scrolling are fine, but, the areas where the terminal app has it's menu (which doesn't change at all) you would notice that there is ghosting where the pixels burned out in that color.

Unless your laptop screen is a plasma screen (highly unlikely), then no. Laptop screens are usually LCD, and LCD doesn't cause burn marks.

Yes, that is why it is a good idea to use a screensaver to come on after a period of time.
