My favorite story is from the Eddas (Norse Mythology) -- there was a lot of really good ones in that book, but the one I liked the most is when the god Thor has his hammer Mjollnir stolen, and he and the trickster god Loki have to dress up in women's clothing to get it back. Thor had to pretend to be Freyja (the Vanir goddess - in easiest terms, she's the Norse version of the goddess Aphrodite) as the ransom required the goddess's hand in marriage, and then upon entering the castle the thunder god took back Mjollnir, and taught the Jotuns (giants) a lesson they wouldn't forget.

The Ugly Duckling--The boys always said I was ugly; I hoped all the time that I'd turn into a beautiful swan (figuratively, of course) when I grew up. Didn't happen, of course.

I also liked the Three Billy Goats Gruff, just because it was cute.
