It all depends what state you work in, in California,

Labor Code Section 551. States: "Every person employed in any occupation of labor is entitled to one day's rest therefrom in seven."
Section 552. States: "No employer of labor shall cause his employees to work more than six days in seven." any person violating this is guilty of a misdemeanor.

however in section 556. the above do not apply if the total hours worked do not exceed 30hrs or more than 6 a day. There are many loop holes to these including Section. 554

it is always important to contact your local labor board, don't always trust your HR dept. they don't always know what they are talking about.

Where did you hear that it is against the law to work 7 days a week straight?
I have worked seven days a week for twelve hour shifts many a day.
Consult your local labor laws for your state. Go to the department of labor and they will tell you what the applicable laws are for your state.

It depends on where you live; in some jurisdictions you cannot be forced to work 7 days straight (but is voluntary if you want to work in your days off). In most places you have 2 days off per week.

But you need to call or go to the site of your local Labor Bureau to know how it works in your area.

It's not a Federal law so every sate has his own laws about day-offs and rests for employees.

Not in the USA, in Canada I believe there are max hours per week you can be MADE to work, but I don't know how they can possibly enforce this.

In France my understaning its illegal to work more than 30 hrs a week. So answers will vary by country.

For the USA there are many jobs that work 7 days a week for months at a time, even 12 hr shifts.

Yup, it's illegal: in France. But in the U.S.A it is fine, provided you are compensated for the extra time. Some jobs require you work 7 days for long shifts: like Alaskan Fisherman, or Wall Street executive, or congressional aid.

If you are over the age of 18, you can work as many hours as you like. I believe there are some restrictions, such as how many hours a pilot can fly, or how many hours a truckdriver can drive. Other than that, I don't think there are any rules in that area.

There are only limitation laws regarding minors ( only those under 16 i think).
You can work as much as you can handle.
