read these stories and find out what it was like for women pre-Roe.

here's a news flash, illegal or not, women will get abortions. outlawing abortion will not make abortion go away. What it will do is put women at risk of death due to illegal ones and the rich will simply leave the country to get it. If anti-abortion people were really interested in preventing abortion, they would make ALL birth control readily available and mandate sex education. What it really is about is power over women.

You are a self-hating, uneducated woman who is ignorant about what's really going on. the right to control one's body is the basic right of any woman...I suggest you study what your life would have been like 50 years ago

just dont have sex, teach abstinance to kids.......it's really astonishing how ignorant this society is. Sex is a biological instinct. "Just say no" is just stupid

America first:

Abortion is not murder, it is a medical procedure. a fetus in the first trimester has no capability of surviving outside the womb and is therefore not a viable life

For me personally, I dont believe in abortion. That is my personal choice, but I do not have the right to decide that for another woman. I do however will never believe in a late term, and I mean late 2nd and 3rd trimester abortion when a baby is viable, a woman should know long before that if she wants to abort, after that if she doesn't want the baby she should carry it full term and give it up for adoption.

With the creation of penicillin 'illegal abortion' deaths went down significantly. So much so that it really isn't a scare or reputable fear...unless some girl thinks she's good with the hanger.

Abortions will be done, you're right....but the numbers won't be as significant. American demographics will grow again. Pre-Roe we had around 2.5 children per woman.

Now it's roughly 2, which came back from an incredible shrink in the last 70's and 80's. Economics probably had a significant effect.

I would say we have chose. If people want abortions, they have to chose. The choses are:

1) Keep abortions legal and continuely eliminated the productive base of America (whom would most likely atleast have high school diploma). Have a old demographic, with huge demands on the certain sectors....which will not be filled by America's current uneducated immigrant policy. Go bankrupt by Medicare/Medicaid and SS....due to inequities in the productive class and unproductive class.

2)Keep abortions, change the immigration system to more highly educated individuals in industries where wage is high over inflation. You might have shifting political view, but the economy will function and social programs won't go bankrupt over a short period of time.

3)Eliminate Roe and go back to state chose. This will increase pregnancies a significant percentage, while in some states it will still occur. Immigration can be lowered or altered, because we immigrate roughly the same number we abort each year. The population growth would help make-up the need for a productive class, and I think it's probably the best option...or safest.

Now that's not even a religious perspective, but there's a bit of irony that the democrats create medicare and destroy it....because they don't understand the long-term effects of killing off 40 million people.

Did they really think they could make-up those revenues with individuals averaging a 7th grade education? Native individuals of America (while not perfect) are often far more educated and far more productive for this country...it's just bad policy to apply this form of judicial activism upon the country and expect that nature does bite you in the ***.

Wow, abortion. What a nice subject at this time of day.

I somewhat agree with you. I've always said that as much as I am against abortions, women will get an abortion if they really want one, whether it be in a back alley or in an abortion clinic. HOWEVER, I am completely against having my tax dollars go to pay for the killing of babies. You can murder all you want, I just don't want to be a part of it. There's also no harm in giving mothers all of the facts, telling her the dangers and implications of having an abortion at these clinics. Knowledge is power. I don't understand why the pro-abortion crowd is so against this. It's too big of a decision to make without having all of the information.

Similar to you, I don't want gov't to tell us what we can and cannot do to a certain extent (there are laws we should of course follow), but I also don't want gov't to pay for irresponsible and immature people having unprotected sex. If you're too cheap to buy condoms, you can find a local public clinic that will give you handfuls for free. There's also always been sex ed in school, you obviously didn't pay attention.

Abortion is a murder and there is no difference of opinion on it. Therefore it can/should not be declared/claimed/called as legal.
To allow abortion as legal act is like to allow murder as lawful act.
We have no right to claim a life to save ourselves from future problems which we may or may not face. What if people start killing others under the same doctrine.
We can take measures to avoid pregnancy but once it is there we can/should not remove it.

You're preaching to the already-converted. Yea, women will have abortions regardless of whether it is legal or not and America, as a nation, should acknowlege that and provide safe, medical abortions. We should really teach abstinance in our schools because kids are gonna "do it" anyways, so why not try your hardest to get them to not do it? Teach them safe sex practices.

I think it is more of a moral issue as opposed to a power over women issue. Lots of people, even people who are pro-choice, have problems with abortion. When you try to make it a woman issue, you are alienating men who should have an equal say in the choice of their children.

A ban on abortion will also prevent hospitals from making their own policies, so if paid enough some underground abortionist will perform the procedure even if the child is 4 years old. (ban promotes criminal abortion clinics)

Then you'll have to be scared of what the dog will drag home and chew on in front of the kids. Right now, a bird isn't any big deal, but what happens when little suzy wants to stop the dog from chewing on that little squishy doll thing in its maw?(ban prevents proper disposal)

Prior to good medical care, women died on the front lawns screaming for help to get the baby out. When abortions were illegal, women got coat hangar abortions and frothing infections that either killed them or left them sterile for life. The anti-abortion crowd is the same type that dreamed up prohibition. Busy body do-gooders who want to control every body else.

2007-07-16 19:53:34 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 3 1

No.

The fact it will not go away is irrelevant. Bank robbery does not go away in spite of our laws against it. Should it be legal?

Women at risk?? They don't have to get an abortion and they can put their children up for adoption. Killing an innocent baby makes no sense.

Rich folks can get dope easier than poor folks. Should we legalize that? Rich folks can hire high-priced attorneys and get away with murder, so should we legalize murder?

It's all about protecting innocent children. The control of women has nothing to do with it. Don't you read the polls? Most of those who oppose abortion are WOMEN!!

Yes it should. By banning it, it'll just happen in more terrible ways: in many countries, girls use sharp and unfortunately rusty coat-hangers to perform abortion themselves, and kill themselves in the process. What's worse: unlicensed doctors performing the deeds in rural areas for extra cash, with unsterilized tools that put the patients in dire danger. Having it available wont make it happen more often, it'll let it happen more safely.

concerning the issue of 'murder.' I don't consider the fetus a child until a certain stage. I don't thing late-term abortion is condonable but in some situations, ie. rape, I think it is. If I were a mother I'd rather have my daughter alive than her child, as cruel as it sounds, because in most cases, if a girl can't get an abortion legally and safely, she'd probably just do it herself. In any case, I think it would be fair to say we should keep our noses out of other people's wombs. We can't decide something like this for someone: it is their body, their uterus, their decision.

Your link isn't working. And yes abortion should be available to women who need them. Woman get raped and I think it is a necessity for them to abort the child and not have a child by a man she hates. And if it wasn't legal think what would happen to the woman that get them done in the "back rooms" of places that aren't doctors offices.
