I got a job doing it just a few months ago. It was mainly a simple app, quick interview and then hired. This company did have a two-week paid training period, was pretty professional and then we were on the floor.

Look in your classified employment section under either "call centers, telemarkeing or sales." If you're in a fairly large city, there should be gobs of them.

Don't assume that what Bear is saying is true, but do make sure it's a reputable company.

They're generally in the job listings under the "sales" category. I worked as a telemarketer for Time-Life Books in Seattle while in college. It's not a bad job if you can accept that most people don't want what you're selling. Be grateful for the ones who make it immediately clear they're not interested, so you can move on to someone more receptive.

They were looking for people who could sound friendly and persuasive while reading from a script. Some basic sales sense helped, too, like understanding how to deal with objections.

some are owned by private companies that you have to know someone who knows someone kinda thing. others put vague adds in the newpaper about making great money working 40 hours a week but they dont say what for. call some adds like that and you might find one. do a search on the web for charity raising foundations like special olympics or madd. you should run into something. telemarketing was my first job and i called on behalf of a company called medalian for special olympics.

Search the word call center. They are always looking. Don't do it. I did it for one day and I felt that I had lost my soul.
