I called my doctors office after experiencing breakthrough bleeding, they said to stop the birth control for a week to have a period, then return to normal routine. But the menstrual blood is different than normal. I've heard about this, and it sounds like a possible birth control failure, and miscarriage. Help?

I appreciate your help. I'm positive I'm not pregnant right now, Because everything has leaked out of me (not to be gross). I'm just unsure if it was a miscarriage or just a regular period. =/

I think it would be better for you to go see the doctor and have it checked for possible pregnancy. I know that birth control pills are not 100% sure of protecting you from getting pregnant., if you had an intercourse with an opposite sex. Stop taking the pills. and from there you can decide on what to do after getting the result from the clinic. if you are pregnant, congratulations. and if not, then there must be something wrong. Have it checked as soon as possible to better in taking care of your health. I, too had a miscarriage and it feels bad. until now for it should have been a baby girl for my husband that he had been longing for. Take care of yourself because life is so precious.

When the lining of your uterus gives way and your period starts, blood is usually bright red. As your flow decreases it will turn a darker color like old blood. If you have alot of this and have a problem with pain or clots go to the Dr. Some breakthrough bleeding happens and its natural. Some are not and need to be addressed by a healthvare professional.

Breakthrough bleeding can also occur because the body is not tolerating the particular birth control pill that you have been on (I've had to change birth control pill brands several times). It can also sometimes occur because an infection is going on and yes, it's also possible that it could be miscarriage.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation to see what they think is going on for sure.
