It played sometime in the 70s, about a man who went into a trance in his house or apartment and astral-projected outside his body. In this way he killed people. A policeman, or detective, or whatever he was, knew the man was guilty, but because he had an alibi (he was in his apartment, or house), the law couldn't touch him. People saw the man's astral spirit during the murders, but again, there was no proof. At the end of the movie, the detective, or whatever he was, went into the man's apartment or house and cremated his body ... so I guess his spirit must still be wandering outside his body to this day. Which doesn't make sense to me now, because he was a lot more dangerous in spiritual form, and could probably do something to the detective or cop. Of course, I was small, so I might've missed something.

...you're talking about the 1976 mystery/chiller, "Invisible Strangler", starring Stephanie Powers, Elke Sommer and Robert Foxworth.

You might be interested to know that Alpha Home Entertainment recently released this public domain film on DVD, in a 'grindhouse'/'drive-in' type format (double feature films, with trailers and theatre concession commercials running before, and sandwiched in between), under the alternate title, "The Astral Fiend", and back-to-back with the sci-fi shocker, "The Brain Machine" (...just bought it, myself!!!)

...check it out, here!!!
