For Yes to democrats: England gladly accepted nuclear submarine missiles the U.S. gave to them within the last few years. You should be thankful. Clinton would never help out England in such a way.

Electronic televisions were invented in America.
http://www.tvhistory.tv/Philo.htm
"They achieved the first fully electronic television picture on September 7, 1927, with the transmission of a straight line. Later that year, they successfully transmitted a 'puff of smoke' from Cliff's cigarette.'
An American invented refigeration: "Perkins also invented an early refrigerator (really an ether ice machine). " http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bljacobperkins.htm
America invented the electronic calculator. Any references to an 1960's english calculator are irrelevant: "In 1954, IBM, in the U.S.A., demonstrated a large all-transistor calculator and, in 1957, the company released the first commercial all-transistor calculator" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculator#The_development_of_electronic_calculators

The U.S. invented the VCR. They were custom machines used by TV show makers to record shows for storage or later playback. An American (Jack Mullen) invented the technology sold by Ampex. "Ampex revolutionised the radio and recording industry with its famous Model 200 tape deck, developed directly from Mullin's modified Magnetophones" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Mullin
Jack Mullen and Wayne R. Johnson invented the electronics to record video onto audio tapes. "Bing Crosby Enterprises (BCE) gave the world's first demonstration of a videotape recording in Los Angeles on November 11, 1951. Developed by John T. Mullin and Wayne R. Johnson since 1950" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videotape#Open_reel

The integrated circuit was invented in America. Drummer's attempt (1956) at making one didn't work.
"The first integrated circuits were manufactured independently by two scientists: Jack Kilby [American] of Texas Instruments filed a patent for a "Solid Circuit" made of germanium on February 6, 1959. Kilby received patents U.S. Patent 3,138,743 , U.S. Patent 3,138,747 , U.S. Patent 3,261,081 , and U.S. Patent 3,434,015"..."Robert Noyce[American] of Fairchild Semiconductor was awarded a patent for a more complex "unitary circuit" made of Silicon on April 25, 1961. Microwave oven:
America invented the microwave oven using American technology. A microwave oven works on the principle of using microwaves (generated from another American invention) to move and create friction mainly in water molecules in food. Sounds simple to make but it is not. One of the most difficult problems was finding the microwave frequency that worked best for heating water. It was a problem because the inventor only had access to 1940's technology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_oven.
About magnetrons ("microwave generators"), they were invented in America. Modified ones were used by England during WW2. "two-pole magnetrons were developed in the 1920s by Albert Hull at General Electric's Research Laboratories (Schenectady, New York)" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavity_magnetron#History

The first working transistor was invented in America. It was one of the most important inventions of the 20th century.
"John Bardeen and Walter Brattain and William Shockley received the Nobel Prize in 1956 for the invention of the transistor." http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa061698.htm

My husband and I have spoken about this often.
It seems other Countries almost always gets the credit for inventing things that in fact were first invented in America by Americans.
Especially China.
They love to take what we've invented and copy it to make a much cheaper version of their own and ship it over here to screw us into buying what they would like us to think came entirely from China.
And Japan does the same thing.
But I wonder why do we allow them to do it?
If I had the opportunity to buy only American made products that's made in America by Americans I would but it's getting harder and harder to find anything that's made here.
Someday we're going to regret allowing this to happen.

I thought this was quite a good question until I did some research of my own using US websites.
TV - Baird (mechanical) oct 1925 Farnsworth (Mechanical) 1926
Transistor - Germany 1928 patented
Microwave oven - Spencer 1945 US but developed from UK RADAR - Robert Watson-Watt 1935
Cigarette - Seville 18thC beggars
Fridge - William Cullen Glasgow, then James Harrison Australia 1857
LCD screen 1936 Marconi England patented
Plasma screen - Illinois 1964 US
Integrated circuit(computer chip) - Geoffrey Dummer British Ministry of Defence May7 1952
Light bulb - Humphrey Davy 1802 British
Electronic Calculator - 1963 Bell Punch Co. Uk & Sumlock England
VCR - Ampex 1956
HDD - IBM
I got fed up looking after this but it just goes to prove that a large majority of so called American Inventions were merely developments of equipment already in use in Europe and the rest of the world.
And You didn't invent the Car either.

If you take a look at the background of the people who invented all those things, you will be surprised to see that most of them are from another country migrated to USA, so that took care of American inventors part. USA directly uses other countries inventions too, why not let them share and people all over the world have the profit of using new things.
Now I have this site, which shows only just part Armenian inventors in USA and around the world(the rest of the list will come soon). That's just Armenians, there are whole lot of other ethnic groups with the same list.
USA gives the opportunity and money so that makes easier for people from around the world to embrace it, but that does not mean USA invented them, lets share it........don't think materialist...be friendly...
I agree with TIVOVOVO.

There is/has been an inquiry in Congress about this very issue - which has not yet been resolved, as far as I know. It is specific to the China trade agreement, and plagiarism.
But, In my opinion, there is nothing like good ol' "American Made" products. It's just very difficult to find them anymore.

Ahh - but most of these things would not be possible without stored electricity (ie batteries) which was invented by Allesandro Volta (an Italian) so really America is just living off the Italians.
See how stupid your argument sounds?

Our country is borrowed. Everyone but the Native-Americans are immigrants. All the ideas we bring with us, therefore, are an compiling of all the countries in this world and their ideas. You can't attribute all these inventions to Americans: if Thomas Edison moved to Bangladesh would the light-bulb be Bangladeshi?

Yes I have and have you also noticed that the Jews have most of the Nobel Prizes especially the ones that require smarts like the sciences. No wonder that the USA and the Jews are so hated, they make everybody else look bad.
Non-Jew, European born and raised and fortunate enough to have been legally accepted by the USA.

I wonder who invented written words.
Lot of patents in electronics do come from Japan and elsewhere too. This is very generalized list. I can be sure lot of components in lcd, plasma or other things can be tracked to foreign countries as well. I've seen Japanese scientists win patent lawsuits worth hundreds of millions of dollars from Sony.
And the reason we get so many unique patent is because we get lot of foreign scientists moving to our country. We should be thanking diversity for it.
Please understand every culture have its shining moment in history.

And then they hate Americans...
I have never understood that. They love so many American things, yet seem to think they were brought to Earth by magic.
One thing that hasn't been copied in many countries...driving BETWEEN the lines on the road. What a novel concept.
How is Al Gore "Anti American"?? Friggin ridiculous.
