the dimensions are 36.5' x 2' x 2' I figured out how much the wood I'm using will cost roughly, I just can't seem to find a price for some kind of mesh wiring, I'm thinking something with 1cm x 1cm sized squares or something like that. Can I buy that at home depot? The wood I'm using is 2"x3" and I'll need about 5. Oh and for the mesh wire i need something that strong/thick enough that i can make a door with it.

i actually decided that when i do the floors i'm gonna put down plywood then paint it whatever color i want then put a sheet of plexi glass on top of it.... i might put something on the plexi glass though so the ferrets won't slide...

Yes, you can get the material you need at home depot, and it is not very expensive at all. When you get to that section, you will see just what you have talked about. Don't waste your money on coated wire the ferret will chew it.

dont go with plastic/rubber coated wire or mesh. Theres too much risk of caught paws and or wearing the rubber off and exposing bare metal to cut. It will also be more abrasive and they will develop very sore pads. Plastic mesh could be used for the front doors and sides. Some do have a tendency to climb if they can so keep that in mind. If you are going to go all out see if you can construct plexi floors to be removeable so you can slide them out and give them a hosing. I have a 6' tall store bought cage with all the little platforms and ramps and it needs dismantled and cleaned twice a month. Try to make the cleaning of the cage as easy on yourself as possible. Also if you can create places where there littler box and food bowl wont be pushed all over the place. Ferrets are corner pottiers if they push the litter box away from the corners they will be less likely to use it. The mesh you are looking for can be found at home depot, at my local home depot its over near the lumber section.

Well, first of all, wood is bad for ferrets. Also, the smell of the ferret and its urine will soak into the wood and the smell will be worse than normal.

Instead of plexy glass (which urine will seep under and permiate the wood) I would apply elmers school glue to the floor - 2 coats will work fine and it is non-toxic. Then you can wipe up any accidents and the smell can't soak in.

You can use this wood cage until you find a large ferret cage to buy. Good luck!

I made a cage out of these but MAKE SURE that the cage has too small gaps for the ferret to fit its head through...you may need to double up on cubes...I found if you do it that way it isnt actually that cheap and the cage weighs a TON. Make sure it has a solid bottom, not wire. You could also try 16guage wire mesh from the hardware store, of course you need to coat it so it doesnt rust but its cheaper.

Wood isn't the best material. It's practically uncleanable, and if your ferret's Peepee get's on to it, it will rot badly. How about making the whole cage out of wire? or maybe you can just buy one.

With all due respect, why ever would you cage a Ferret??? Certainly they are in many ways, like a cat. They can be trained to use a litter box even.
