The yanks can make the playoffs, but many things need to happen. They started the second half right winning four of their last five. Their next games are against Toronto, Tampa bay, Kansas city, Baltimore, and Chicago, all sub-.500 teams. If the yanks are going to make the playoffs they have to win all of those series. But they also need help from other teams. If they are going to win the east the red sox have to start losing. With shilling out and ortiz banged up, it is possible. Also look at the 05 season, the yanks were behind a lot to the red sox and caught them in the final series. But they only have 6 games left against them. If the yanks are going to win the wild card then the Indians need to start losing. Another thing is that there are a lot of teams in front of them in the wild card race, whereas it is only the red sox ahead of them in the east. But strange things have happened, looking at last season alone, how the twins came back and how the cards almost blew the central and won the world series with only 83 regular season wins. The yanks need wins now, and hope the return of philip hughes and jason giambi (if he returns) will make an impact. GO YANKS!

Look the yankees have ZERO TEAM CHEMISTRY

lemme repeat that

ZERO TEAM CHEMISTRY

Each and every one of these guys want to hit a home run and be a hero everytime...thats just not gonna get it done

They don't play team ball at all...they have the right tools with speedy guys like ARod, Melky and Jeter but they haven't utilized them enough

Their pitching is horrible...guys don't feed off each other and all those pitchers look like they are just going through their motions...they show no emotion or enthusiasm at all.

Their bullpen is burned out due to overuse by Joe Torre and all these guys are really tired already at the mid point of the season.

I don't see this team come together as a strong unit and put together a solid run for the playoffs...jus don't see it happening

THEY HAVEN'T DONE THAT SINCE DAY 1...so why would they all of a sudden???

i guarantee you Yanks will cut the red sox lead down to 3 or 4 games..but still that won't be enough to win the division or the wild card since the mariners and the athletics are doing very well on top of the wild card race

The big difference this year versus previous years is that they are no longer in the driver seat. Just playing better is not going to get them in the playoffs. They'll have to hope Boston or many of the Wild Card teams (Cleveland, Minnesota & Seattle) start to struggle.

I do expect them to gain some ground as the plow through Orioles, Royals, and the Devil Rays over the next few weeks. But the real test will come in the schedule in the middle of August when they have 17 games against the Tigers, Indians, Anaheim and the Red Sox. Unless they get some pitching, I expect they'll start to fall back in the standings again when they start to face some of tougher teams in the American League.

I believe they are cursed when it comes to winning the World Series of late and I think I know the source of the curse: Don Mattingly. When Mattingly played for 14 seasons with the Yankees, between 1982 to 1995, they didn't win the "big show". The year after he retired they won it all. Since Don has joined the field coaching staff of the Yankees, they have not won a World Series.

Nah there not making the playoffs, first of all they are too inconsistant they get on a hot streak one wekk then the next week they are back to losing...you cant do that if you wanna make the playoffs, second they are too far back in the A.L east and even the wildcard (although its to early to talk about wild card) but they have about 2 and a half months left...even though time is still on their side i cant see them making it still b/c there are many teams that r better like seattle, cleavland and detriot, so i think either seattle or cleavlamd will take the wildcard and boston will def win the A.L east.

I am a Red Socks fan, but anything can happen in baseball. All that needs to happens is for the yankees to go on a winning streak and they will catch up

Teams with Zero team chemistry have won the World Series before, but.......

The Red Sox schedule is toooo easy in the second half, which will make them tough to catch.

Well i believe that can. BUT they need to start playing ALOT better. They need a lot of help from the BoSox who have somewhat been struggling as of late. The pitching needs to do well and get into the 7th inning to allow the relievers some rest.
