One flew over the cuckoos nest; the godfather; local hero; the jungle book; apocalypse now; once upon a time in the west; once upon a time in america (both Leone films); Good Fellas; Raging Bull; Night of the Hunter (the only movie that Charles Laughton directed); the original Cape Fear; 12 Angry Men; The original Frankenstein; ditto King Kong; Nosferatu; Southern Comfort; Thunderbolt & Lightfoot; Scarface; Manhunter.

There are many more, but hopefully there are a few there you can choose from

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - widely regarded as not only the best ever spaghetti western but also the best western
- throw into this one of the most recognisable theme tunes - wow

or - The Sting - oscar winning film set in the depression era in amercia, fantastic theme tune to boot. Newman at his best. Robert Shaw is superb as the the ruthless mobster Doyle Lonnegan

or - The Shawshank Redemption or Papillon - strangely both films are to do with plotting to escape from a tyranical prison environment. Robbins & McQueen are par excellence in 2 of the most under-rated films of all time.
