First of all...to the poster above who said that it's okay to deliver at 34 weeks. You need a new doctor!!!
Some 35 weekers do okay. It's really individual/situation specific.
My oldest was born at 34w0d at 5lbs 7oz and was breathing on his own but was in NICU for 18 days. He is now 2.5 years old with asthma, allergies, eczema, breath-holding spells with seizures, GERD, pneumonia (4 times), and RSV once. We are non-smokers for those wondering. Nothing keeps him down though. He just goes and goes. He's happy and normal. Since 6 months old, his development has been that of his real age or better.
My youngest was born at 34w5d (just 2 days shy of 35 weeks) at 6lbs 10oz. He's now 9 months. He was in the NICU for 8 days with premature lung disease (moderate to severe), 2 pneumothorax, collapsed lung (b/c of pneumothorax), and trouble regulating body temperature. He is now very healthy. He's had a couple ear infections & one sinus infection, but is doing just great. His development falls mostly at his chronological age.
Both babies had steroids for their lungs and both were delivered via emergency c-section. Technically, my oldest should've had a more critical stay in the NICU, but his only issue was feeding. My youngest, on the other hand, had no feeding issues, but more serious breathing & temperature issues.
So, while you may get lucky and get to come home with your baby...most doctors will not stop labor at or beyond 36 weeks, but after 37 is considered term...the closer to 40, the better (in most cases).

You're right, 35 weeks is technically considered premature. A baby is not considered to be full term until 37 weeks. Your friend may not consider the baby to be premature if it didn't have any of the health problems or low birth weight that is commonly associated with premature births. But if you Google the words "premature birth" the information you find will tell you that 37 weeks is full term.

5 weeks is usually considered premature. They need those last few weeks to let the lungs mature and put on some extra layers of fatty tissue. Those born at 35 sometimes have difficulty breathing and regulating their own body temperature.

35weeks is premmature. a baby is consider full term at 37 weeks.the closer to 40 weeks you, the better some babies that are born at 35 weeks do ok on their wpn but lung development and weight are so important. Don't do anything to try and cause yourself to give birth at 35 weeks. my daughter was born at barely 38 weeks and had some respiratory problems.

It is premature, and they will avoid it if they can but your baby has a huge chance of surving. They mostly have to watch their heart and lungs that early. Anytime after 26 weeks they can keep a baby alive. You will probably find it has to spend a few weeks in hospital though. Good luck!

It is considered premature. You need to give the baby the most time possible for her lungs to develop.

It is premature, and you would probably be transfered to a hospital with a NICU. But most of the really bad health risks of preemie babies are past.
