Kendall got traded to the Cubs for Rob Bowen and Jerry Blevins. Its just what alot of the A's fans wanted ,Kendall out + Crosby + Kotsay, but we havent gotten there yet.Personally i thought Jason Kendall didnt really contribute offensively ,and often critisized him ,but now that he's out im kinda sad .Im gonna have to get used to him not seeing his face behind home plate, in back of the hitter.Oh well.

Bowen is horrible, I was so happy when I found out they sent him down to AAA and even more when I found out they got rid of his ***. Kendall may not be getting the stats he is used to getting but we brought in a solid veteran catcher and the As got two minor league players. Great deal for the cubs!!!

chargerjv5 - Do you have any idea what your talking about?why would we want to keep him... retard!

Kendall is a good solid catcher and will benefit from being back in the NL. Cubs pitching should see some improvement, too. With Barrett out in SD, the Cubs needed an offensive catcher. Personally, I think the Cubs got the better part of the deal. Remember Bowen got dealt in the Barrett trade and was only hitting a few points over the Mendoza line. I hope the A's have an answer at AAA.

pros: kendall was a grt hitter 4 the pirates, & then when he went 2 the A's, an american league team, he seemed 2 dissapear from ESPN's coverage. now he's back in the NL, & the central division at that, & i think he can get back his old ways. he no's this division well, & he's a far better plyr in the 2nd half than in the 1st. & lately he's been pretty good. the cubs may have what they've been missing in the catcher dep.

the A's get bowen, a solid defensive plyr. he doesn't play offense all 2 well, but kendall doesn't either. bowen is underrated when it comes 2 his D, & lets face it; the A's r savin sum dough on this deal.

cons: the cubs r going on hope w/ kendall right now. alot of "ifs" going arnd the clubhouse. kendall may prove 2 b the missing link, but most likely he wont.

the A's may b used 2 having a catcher who can't provide offense, but look at where that dependence has landed them. 12 games back of 1st & a record below .500. bowen will most certainly not help the A's anymore than kendall did. he just went from the hottest team in baseball 2 1 of the coldest. his mindset can't b good.

The Cubs got robbed. Kendall was making $13 million this year, which means he had about $6+ mil left, and while the A's sent cash to the Cubs I assume it was less than $1mil because that requires approval by the commissioner's office and none of the reports of the trade mentioned that. Which means that the Cubs are on the hook for between $5mil and $7mil of his contract; for that alone I'd say the Cubs got ripped off.

Kendall's OPS this year is .542, which is ABYSMAL. He's 18th in the AL in that category among catchers with 100 ABs or more. Out of 18. He's been just awful this year. Not contributing at the plate at all. The fact that the A's found someone not only to pay the rest of his contract, but to send back 2 live bodies in return, amazes me. I don't know anything about the Blevins kid, and Bowen's just a backup catcher, but it doesn't even matter.

The Cubs painted themselves into a corner -- they traded Barrett for nothing because of whatever clubhouse drama he was involved in that their admin/coaches couldn't control, and then just when their fans started to think that Geovany Soto was finally going to get the chance he deserved, they trade for a guy who hits far, far worse than replacement level. How ridiculous.

The A's aren't contending for anything this season, so it was a good idea to dump a huge contract for a guy who seems to be on a seriously downward slope at age 33. He's been okay for the A's, but he's only a shadow of what he was as a Pirate, when his average and OBP were among the best in the league. Even if neither Bowen nor Blevins pans out for the A's, this was still a smart trade as a salary dump.

The Cubs have to hope that Kendall finds his hitting stroke, and that teams don't run too wild against him. They didn't give up a lot to get him, and they can afford him, so it's not too risky a deal for them.

Kendall's numbers have gone down ever since he left Pittsburgh, so maybe his move back to the National League might help him a little bit. Let's just hope Zambrano doesn't send him to the hospital like he did Michael Barrett.
