I'd probably give the 10 to traveler, but answer number 2 has a point also.
The piano hinge will still only be best attached at the studs,,, likely 16 inch centers with a lot of extra holes. You could however attach a "Cleat" to the studs, level it, and then whatever length the "bar" is, attach it, with the Piano hinge, to the Cleat.
It would be wise to add, with regular hinges, perhaps strap type, a leg or two for the issue of weight/stress.
If aesthetics aren't strictly an issue you can mount the "Shelf" so that it folds down; especially if you wanted to put Mica on it, or paint,,,OR Up, seeing the underside of it when folded. All that involves is placement of the piano hinge.

simple answer from a mom without enough space too.. you will need some simple hardware, and a few pieces of wood. decorate later. first measure, idiot method, get some newspaper or other, lay it on floor decide how far out you want this thing to be. then measure. cut large piece of wood. then small piece of wood, same width. but about 12 inches deep this is what you attach to wall , go to hardware store get some cheep hinges and wall screws. for the support of table portion you need a swinging arm. wood 90* angle attach under center of wall mounted wood. get hinges and attach. then decorate

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/aAbq1
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Make one yourself, it' can't be rocket science to buy a square table and remove two legs, hinge it to a wall and cut and hinge the other two legs so they fall flat when it's raised.

all kinds of hinges available but a piano hinge would give you the most strength. Not to difficult a project. You should be able to pull it off. Under table brace-ing should not be difficult either.
