When the little wheelie guy is stuck is there a button or sequence of keys to press to escape the way one would use the ctrl-alt-del on a PC?

You should buy a PC then you won't have these gay little problems.

OK, I admit it, I can't help stirring up the rabid mac fanboys.

For the quick thing (like in pre 2000 Pro systems), press 'cmd
option esc'. For the full thing (like in 2000 and XP), go to Apps:Utils:Activity Monitor.

For a definition of Fanboy see below;

Fanboys are attributed with a sycophantic devotion to the creators and principles behind a work with which they are currently enthralled.
Fanboys are noted for a very emotional attachment to their chosen subject, often taking negative remarks about it as a personal attack. They will readily engage in debates, but will fall back on emotional responses when challenged on facts.

For example, a fanboy may go out of his way to point out negative and often untrue statements about their obsession's rivals.
Fanboys are often hostile towards critical review of their chosen subject. The stereotypical image of the fanboy is as an unkempt, socially awkward, young man who may be perceived as a loud mouthed pseudo-intellectual. Fanboys are also typically aggressive and hateful towards the opposing brand or competition of their obsession regardless of its merits or achievements.

option+apple+esc
Blue Apple menu > Force Quit
Option click and hold on the apps icon on the Dock > Force Quit
I'd wait at least ten seconds or more before force quitting an app.

Yes the Power Button.
This will allow your computer to shut down and then when you hit the power button the 2nd time to restart it will go through and do system diagnosis and fix any problems you may have.
Don
You have to hold in the power button until the screen blinks off.
