I can imagine why the (R)'s would never support DC becoming state, and I doubt all of DC is on welfare.

in article one of the constitution it says that only states get votes in congress. DC being a district of Columbia isn't a state. Just like the virgin islands and Puerto Rico. however like puerto Rico they can have delegates that can speak but get no vote. To me this always didn't seem fair

The Constitution specifically states that the Representatives shall be chosen by the people of the State. DC is not a State and therefore has no Constitutional right to elect Representatives. The District is governed by Congressional mandate. I know you Americans dont like the limitations of your Constitution but that is no excuse for cirvumventing it.

Yea they don't have voting right in DC. But I think they have a bill to change that. I don't know what's going on with the bill.

There's a movement to make it so. I would be surprised if it doesn't happen in the next 10 years.

It is very sad, the politicians don't seem to be at all concerned I don't know why citizens of D.C. don't protest.
