You should first setup a SSID which is like a user name for your router. So the SSID can be anything. Then setup a password. You can have an open network (without a password) but then anyone can access your wireless which will slow down your usage. So its better to have password. Now after you do this, you have to go to your wireless connections and look for your router. If you see it, connect to it using your password.

In order to configure the SSID and password for the router, connect your computer to the router using a cable and go to 192.168.0.1 in your browser ( I dont know if your router has a different address but this should work). There you can set everything for your router.

This is a simple procedure in all but difficult to explain in an answer. Its easier to show in person. I hope this helps you.
