I hear all these analogies of the babies brains being sucked out of the mother with a vacuum. I took this for being stupid, but then I said to myself, I don't really know.

Do you?

there are different ways for an abortion to happen

a pill- this causes a miscarriage. the placenta detaches from the uterine wall and the contents of the uterus are passed through the cervix.

there is a vacuum procedure where the fetus and placenta are sucked out of the uterus

there is also a procedure where the fetus is injected with some chemical to end its life and then the body releases it through the cervix. I'm not positive about how all of this works.
I've heard of the heart being injected with saline.

a partial birth abortion has the fetus' skull collapsed and then the body is pulled out. (this was typically only used for health purposes not as an elective procedure)

getting a birth control shot if you are pregnant can cause an abortion. clinics are suppose to give women a pregnancy test before they receive the shot for this reason. so hormones can end a pregnancy

some consider a c-section before the due date to be an abortion.

(I didn't list the emergency morning after pill, since there is no pregnancy when its taken. if you take it while you are pregnant it won't end the pregnancy. but like all pills its not good to take while you are pregnant.
the pill stops the egg from accepting sperm or stops a egg from emplanting depending on how fast you take it)

I believe there may be more ways, these are the ones I've heard of.

there are different methods for different stages of pregnancy.
there is the morning after pill which does not allow the fertilized egg to attach to the uterus, this is usually given the day after sex as it takes about 2-3 days for sperm to make its way to the egg. the abortion pill, releases a hormone that essentially destroys the fertilized egg.
the d & c - dialation and curretage which means they dialate the cervix under either local or general anesthetic and insert a long, curved instrument that is sharp like a razor and scrape the inside of the womb. then they use a suction pump to remove the contents of the womb. to insure that they get all of the fetus the nurses or doc but most time nurse has to lay it out on a towel and make sure all the pieces are there. this is the most commonly used method.
i'm not sure if this method is still in use as it was very dangerous and resulted in miscarriages of live but badly burned babies. its the saline method, a very caustic saline (salt) is injected into the womb causing the mother to miscarry. she still has labor but the baby is born dead.
then there is the controversial partial birth abortion that is done in the last month of pregnancy. the mother is given an injection to induce labor and the baby is delivered feet first either vaginally or through c-section, except for the head where it is turned around and a pair of scissors is inserted into the back of the neck right up under the skull and the spinal cord is snipped. once the baby is determined to be deceased the doc delivers the rest. you can also do a websearch for these methods and probably be able to view photos of the remains and methods.

my sister had to assist on several abortions during her residency. she said the first time they had to piece together an aborted fetus she lost it and threw up in the surgical room. she has always been pro-choice until that day then she said she would never do that but that she couldn't make that decision for other women. kind of like i feel about it. i know too much, ya know?

a long time ago i knew a girl who had a saline abortion, it was awful, awful....she thought that they would inject her and the fetus would just pop out. they said she would have mild cramping and tissue would come out. they had given her a mild sedative and she started cramping really badly and the saline solution burned her legs and privates. the fetus did come out deceased but she said it was not tissue it was fully formed and looked like a minature baby. it messed her up something bad.

Depends on what type of abortion they are doing.

Normal abortion they do ( 1st trimester type) they can do everything from give a pill to force labor to removing piece by piece.

Abnormal ( mothers life is in danger) can be intra utero or C section.

Late term ( partial birth to some) They induce labor, then turn the baby so it is feet first(All except the head is "Born"). Then they puncture a hole in the base of the skull and suck out the contents so it will collapse for ease of removal of the fetus.

That being said I am not against abortion, Per say.

I am against federally funding abortion and I am defiantly NOT nor will I ever be in favor of a late term or partial birth abortion.

If it's early enough in the pregnancy, they can administer a pill that causes what amounts to an intentional miscarriage. Any later than that and it starts getting graphic. Without saying anything that might get me banned, here's the gist. They destroy the fetus with a very gnarly looking tool and then suck it out with a modified vacuum. I am undecided on abortion, but even I have to admit it's pretty freaking gruesome.

that is one way with the vaccum, we had to watch it in Religion class in high school, and then another day we watched a birth, both equally gross.

The only good thing about the birth was nobody died.

I don't have a real opinion on abortion, I wouldn't want it if it were my kid, but if they can live with themselves after it than that is on them. I think incest and rape should be the only reasons to do it but again, it's not my decision, and since I don't have a chonch I won't say anymore about it.

Where there is no doctor for women provides a great explanation that is easy to understand and not presented with bias.
