Rapid heartbeat in a woman 29 weeks pregnant?

My wife, Winter is 29 weeks pregnant and she just felt really odd and her heart began to race up to 90 beats per minute.
Her normal heart rate is between 65 and 72.
Is this a symptom of pregnancy?
Or do I need to take her to the hospital?

Mr. Winter, Stress is the big factor ! Keep people away unless she requests their presence ! Always side with your wife, pregnency is delicate and fragile, emotionally and physically ! You need to be her white knight !

A higher than pre-pregnancy heart rate is quite normal. During pregnancy the total blood volume increases, as does the amount of work the heart must do to circulate it all to both mother and baby. It has to keep a steady supply of oxygen and nutrients going for both of them, and that's a lot of work. It will periodically race, and the resting pulse rate can be as much as 20 or so beats above what it was before. That's part of the reason expectant mothers tire out so easily and feel exhausted with what they think is very little activity. Her heart is currently working for two, on overtime. As long as she isn't getting dizzy or having other problems, then the more rapid pulse isn't a big deal. Even if she exercises, her target heart rate would be between 140-150, so episodes of 90 are not anything to panic over. Just have a seat and rest. That's all that she needs to do. Of course, you can always give the OB doctor a call for confirmation, and should do if it helps set your mind at ease. But no, it's not a run to the hospital call yet. That's a few months off.

rapid heart beat is very common in pregnancy its very anoying aswell i had this when i was pregnant also i still get these now and again now even thow ime not pregnant i went to see the dr he done checks on me he said i was ok just my adrenalin dont worry just mention it to your m/w next time
