There isn't. Congress just voted to give them another 5 Billion dollars. Yes, that was congress.

judging from many of the answers you got, few even know what they do. They are Primarily an Oil services company.
Why don't people understand their Government Services contract was done in the 1990's?
What office did Cheney hold then?

I don't even know exactly what Halliburton does, and I bet nobody else who answers this question has a very good idea of it either. That makes it rather difficult to say how well other companies could substitute for Halliburton.

Anyway, I think it's silly to say that if there were no Halliburton, none of the stuff Halliburton does would get done. What's wrong with having two or three or ten or fifty companies step in to do the job?

there are no single companies capable of handling the wide variety of jobs that Haliburton is capable of. Haliburton is a corporation born out of government need. congress was having great difficulty accomplishing tasks through government only means as for as military needs were concerned. they decided that instead of using and training troops to do this type of work, they would look to the private sector. Haliburton was formed to contract the building of bases, the digging of latrines, the feeding of the troops, the clearing and preparation of land for military use. Haliburton is the monster of government or it's answer to a problem, depending on what perspective you have.

There isn't one. They became as large as they did though someones hard work and specializing in drilling and the building of derricks and refineries. They employ tens of thousands of people and pay taxes. I don't get how the people here think the V.P. has the authority to issue contracts from our Government. That power is with the Congress. If they want to bash someone for Haliburton. My State retirement holds Haliburton stock. It also holds Oil company stocks. If you drive a car you are helping to pay for the profit of stock holders such as retirement funds. Why is it the Liberals hate employers, but love employees. They love the taxes large companies pay but hate the companies. Why do they not go after Sen. Finestein and her funneling billions of Government Contracts to her husbands companies when she was the Chairperson of the Appropriations Committee. All she did was step down as the Chairperson. It was without any doubt a conflict of interest if not outright a crime.

They shouldn't have to "do the job" our miltitary used to be quite fine at it thank you, that it until some S.O.B. thought they could make a buck off the tax payer do you have any idea how the contracts work? Doubt it, it's called cost plus, so how does that work? Well the more an item costs the more money they make, you know tomatoes in the middle east tomatoes cost $15.00 a box ( halliburton receives about .45) but halliburton had them shipped in at $80 a box from Phily ( halliburton now gets $2.40 of the damn tomatoes), that way they make a better percentage of the item's cost and your tax dollar be damned, war profiteering is a crime.
I guess you're saying you support crime and the ripping off of the American tax payer

No, you are absolutely right... I don't know of any other company that could put the meat to the American taxpayer the way Haliburton has.

There are probably thousands of companies that would be willing to feed from the government trough. But I think you're right. Not many of them would be quite a greedy as Haliburton has been.
McDonald's can feed people. So why did Cheney think it necessary to hire his former oil company to feed the troops in Iraq?

How do we know if there is no other company that can do what Haliburton does. Did you not understand the "no bid" part?

Well, make a list of things that Halliburton does.

Say, cater to troops.

Are there no other catering services that the government could pay to go overseas?

Okay, how about construction work.

No other construction companies in the world?

Oil deals? Well, there aren't that many...

Corporations once headed by the current vice-president?

There you go. Unique!
