Why is it, that people I barely know always feel the need to tell others "about" me in front of me- when they really have no clue who I am or what I do. (in all honesty- most of the time they are completely off wack). Why make things up about people? Why not a) actually get to know them, or b) say nothing- until you actually know what you are talking about?

Hazelmeansunshine- Good point. But not to worry- whenever I am around, I am sure to set the record straight. This sort of thing has never really happened to me before (the whole having people make things up about me and talk about me like they know me like that. This whole things has just put in a position I have never been in.) That is why I would love all of your insights.

Do you remember the story of the fox and the grape tree? That was what came to mind as I read your piece. Some people have a desire to inflate themselves and posit that they know much more than they actually do.It could be an issue of confidence that they are trying to resolve but at your expense. What I suggest is that you ignore them as much as you can. If that proves problematic ,you may have to do something that is not so nice---and that is to correct them immediately they start talking out of the other side of their mouth. They may be embarrassed and upset; even mad at you, and you may even lose some "friends". However, you will get the point across and they may stop trying to define you especially in your presence.

Girl, i totally know what your saying! I always had people make stuff up about me too alot when i was growing up being called things that were totally the opposite of how i really am. I think people that judge like that are people who get ''pleasure'' out of hurting people's feelings. Also, there's people out there that say hurtful things out of jealousy. It is so stupid though to do that to people you don't even know. If they don't want to take the time to get to know you then they can at least back off and leave you alone and keep their mouths shut. I was given a false reputation by people at school for no reason at all. I so know how ya feel.

ok, its great to speak up for yourself but at the same time let them taste their own medicine!
this would i will do and i do it allll the time, because girl! i have had this problem for years and i still deal with it...
i smile and tell politely that they are wrong about me and then say " but however!! i think (whoever) is bluh bluh ...(make up something too on them, but if they say something good ... make one good too and if its not then do the same too)" then start laughing and sound like its a joke and if that person is angry at you !! tell he/she " now u know how i felt!"
but remember !!! have a positive attitude .. always smile! you will get the hang of it girl..this is life and you're still young, it's just the beginning .. you will feel good !! by the way..please hang out with the crowd you feel comfortable with, because those are the people who will give you respect and positive point ... you don't need to harm yourself like that...

That's life. That's how people are these days girl. Just hold your head up high and just let it pass. If they're not saying anything positive about you then don't worry about it, especially if what they're saying isn't true. If you get upset about it, it tells them that your feeding into it. That's what they want.

maybe you offer to much of yourself to a person that they feel they can cast judgment on your charcter based on what they see and think they know of you maybe they feel they know enough of you that they feel they know the real you

and why would you let someone inform someone else of you unless introducing you in front of you im sure you can speak clearly for yourself maybe you should stop that and represent yourself
